Default Godfather Trilogy REMIXED!!!!!!

At first I thought, "Okay, Godfather Trilogy is coming out on BD, - at least it is entirely restored for excellent PQ." I did not pre-order it. But when I read that the audio has been completely REMIXED I had no choice but to order it from Family Video today (best price / free shipping with code - better price than Amazon).

Occasionally we get a remastered blu-ray. Usually the PQ is improved. But here is a rare case when the audio track gets a sweeping 5.1 remix to bring it up from MONO to todays required 5.1 surround sound expectations. I am hopeful that more films will get audio track remixes. It was the surround sound upgrade that swayed me to purchase the Godfather Trilogy. Thank you very much.

I hope that Poltergeist (which I pre-ordered) will also have a stunning surround sound audio track. "Carol Ann! Carol Ann! Don't go into the light (unless the movie has been mastered with the ULTIMATE BEST video and audio quality!).

5.1 soundtrack will be just fine in this case, seeing as it was probably part of the whole restoration and supervised by the original sound-editors, etc. But I hardly see why that would excite you so much. For one thing, the Godfather is a dialogue-heavy film and, as a general rule, I prefer to hear the original mono track, anyway (aside from authenticity, most surround-remixes of mono films either sound horribly gimmicky, or there's so little surround use that it might as well be mono) although, as mentioned, Godfather is a slightly different case, since the remixing was actually done as a part of that whole serious restoration.

Even so, if this is so important to you, aren't you watching the wrong movies? Transformers or Black Hawk Down show off the surround sound far better than any remix ever will.

I find it interesting that so many people on this board want the video to look just like the original print, but want the audio remixed. People argue about whether or not to remove grain, but then get enthusiastic when the sound gets "colorized".

I hope this set also includes the original sound mix.

agreed. i would much prefer a restored original mono track to a 5.1 remix. i get very frustrated when studios do a 5.1 remix and don't include the original mono track (like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's).

I absolutely agree. The other day we were watching License To Drive (what a movie) and I had to keep in it's original stereo forum as the 5.1 'remastered' mix just was killing my ears. It sounded so fake and wrong.

A couple of years ago they put out the Godfather Trilogy boxset on dvd and there is a dolby digital 5.1 mix on each of the movies, I'm wondering how better it could be from the dvd set? (it did'nt sound too bad) Is this new mix going to be an Lpcm codec or a regular lossy DD?

It'll be Dolby TrueHD, but I think this is an entirely different mix than what was on the DVD's.

LOL

I was going to post the exact same thing. I think its more like they will support the whole 'director's intent' argument when it suits their needs...

Sweet. Hope it shows to the studios that giving its full potential picturewise and soundwise is worth the trouble and that sales will go accordingly

After you check out, it will ask you to select your delivery method. After choosing, click the button to advance to the payment screen. On this screen, under the partwhere you enter your CC info, there is a box underneath that to add in coupon codes.

Ouch. I thought this would be a thread complaining about the fact that it's remixed. What's next, a thread thanking Sony for releasing colorized black-and-white movies on BD?
