Default Newbie question HD on DVD Will Blue ray pay it?

Hi everybody sorry for this newbie question. I am in the market for buying a new HD camcorder. I am currently looking the Canon HF10. I was told at the store (Best Buy) that if I burned a HD movie file onto a DVD I won’t be able to watch in full HD 1080 on my TV. Since Blue Ray player won’t play it at 1080 because it’s a DVD. In order for me to watch my family movies on 1080 was to burn the movie in a Blue Ray DVD.
