Default Downsizing (2017)

Christoph Waltz and Hong Chau are on board to join Matt Damon and Reese Witherspoon in Alexander Payne’s upcoming dramedy “Downsizing.”

Payne is co-writing with Jim Taylor with Paramount distributing.

The film will mark the third time Paramount and Payne have worked together, following“Election” and “Nebraska.”

“Downsizing” tells the story of an Omaha man who joins the throngs of people undergoing a new process that reduces people to a tiny fraction of their size before moving to one of the many communities of small people that are sprouting up around the world.

Matt Damon to Star in Alexander Payne’s Satire ‘Downsizing’

The film will be produced by Payne and Mark Johnson and will begin production this spring. Taylor and Jim Burke are exec producing.

New Alexander Payne film. Sounds like it might be a bit more in line with Election as well, which is pretty undervalued.

Amazing buzz down at CinemaCon. The 10 minute preview was compared to Kubrick!

Reese Witherspoon made an utterly stupid decision to leave this. Could've been the first movie she's been in to be nominated for Best Picture. Still, Kristen Wiig is an upgrade.

Witherspoon's career been on the decline again ever since she agreed to make Hot Pursuit. Trying to return to her early 2000's period was the biggest mistake of her career (especially after the 2014 she had with roles in three acclaimed films and producing a fourth).

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Hot Pursuit hurt the careers of everyone involved.

Witherspoon can bounce back. She's amazing on Big Little Lies.

I find his movies to be obnoxiously overpraised dramedies. They do little-to-nothing for me. Waltz is the only reason I might be mildly interested in this.

I've liked all Alexander Payne's movies, except the only one I haven't seen, which is Citizen Ruth.

Therefore this one is unmissable.

Cool. Hadn't heard of this til seeing this thread today. Citizen Ruth, Election and Nebraska are all fantastic. Have yet to see any of his work from the period between Election and Nebraska. Will have to check it out in the lead up to this new one.

She's at her best under Jean Marc Vallee. She needs to star in films under his direction from now on. Plus Kidman outacts her in every scene.

Wasn't a big fan of his early work but really liked Nebraska and The Descendants. Hoping this will be more like those films and less like Election, About Schmidt and Sideways.
