Do they still make DLP tvs?

Sammy and Mits still make them. For now anyway.

Mits will have their Laser Rear Projection out later this year

DLP will stay around in projectors and as an RPTV technology until such time as flat panels can be made as economically, or laser TV proves itself as durable and superior

Personally, I'm very happy with the look DLP gives. Much more natural than LCD, much cheaper than plasma

I have a Mitsu 720 DLP that has a nice picture but man is it loud. The fan annoyed me so I went out and bought an LCD

The LED DLPs are whisper quiet and put out very little heat

It's mind boggling, annoying how people pass up on a 73-inch 120hz Mitsubishi for $2200 and would rather go with a 40 inch SHARP tv for about the same price. Yeah, I know it's not always about size but MAN 73 inches!?!

personally dont like DLP. mitsu DLP's are actually the TV type/brand that are 2nd most likely to break. Mitsubishi DLPs have a failure rate of about 11%. First place is Dell flat panels, they are around 13%.

pretty much all DLP failures are related to overheating/fan problems. They were a hit back when a 65" DLP was 2000 and a 50" plasma 720 was still 2500$ (18 months ago)

price of LCD's and plasmas have dropped so much, The only market for DLP is for people who want BIG, like over 60" big

The biggest problem was the heat the bulb put out. The LED DLPs put out virtually no heat. I can watch 2 movies in a row and the fan is whisper quiet and the air coming out only slightly above room temp

does Toshiba still make their DLP's? my friend bought a 65" Toshiba DLP tv about 5 months ago and it looks pretty good actually.

I got a display model (last one) Samsung 56" DLP (Full 1080p) at PC Richards, I went there looking for a 40-42" Sharp LCD looking to put $600 down and use my credit card for the rest (assuming it was around 1200). The guy showed me this TV said it was $700 cash I couldn't believe it, I told him all I had was $600 cash on me, he marked the TV down to 580, gave me a $20 Surge protector, a 1 year warranty(parts and labor), and I was out of there with this wonderful TV (which i'm EXTREMELY satisfied with) for $600 cash. No more no less. I've watched back to back Blu Ray's, i've played hours of PS3, XBOX 360, and Wii games on it, the TV makes absolutely no unnecessary noise, (i hear some complains about the fan) The only thing i'm concerned with is that since the TV was a display, it was constantly on, meaning i may have to replace the bulb sooner then a normal DLP user for $250,(from what I understand a DLP usually lasts around 2 years although i've heard tons of stories, for more or less than that) So in another 3 years down the line i'll still have a gorgeous TV that some people would dream to have, for $850 (at most assuming I have to replace the bulb). Do I care that DLP may or may not be dying? Absolutely not, and if you owned a TV like mine, for the deal I got, you wouldn't either.

I had a Mitsi.. but the blub blow twice in one year so I got rid of it.

DLP may be on the way out, but it will not disappear for awhile. Cheap TV makers may pick up the leftovers to make low priced big screens. I'm not too sad though. If laser based TV's are as good as they sound and don't nuke my retinas, bring 'em on.

I may be mistaken, but my local Carmike Theater is digital and I think it says "DLP" before each movie.

It has a very good quality to it.

I think the next great thinkg is going to be the OLED TVs. Once they can make them 60" for a reasonable cost, all plasmas and lcds will be trashed.

you are correct, OLED TVs will be amazing, hang it on the wall like a picture frame

I agree. I looked at Sony 1080p LCD and Samsung 1080p DLP side by side.... no difference to me.

The image quality was identical, but the Sammy had 4 extra inches and cost $400 less!
