Technically, today is the day that Warner stops supporting HD DVD.
Yes, ironically, the studio that effectively caused the demise of HD DVD has stayed on longer than anybody else, be it CE maker, movie studio or computer software giant. As a result, the last couple months have been strange, because the format was obviously dead but, as long as a studio was still releasing material for it, you couldn't actually pronounce it dead. But the day has finally arrived. Today is the release date for the final two HD DVD titles by the last major studio still releasing titles on the format (Twister and P.S. I Love You). Admittedly, in one final death twitch, three more titles will be released: Disco Pigs and the final two instalments of Bandai's Freedom. But Disco Pigs don't enter into it - HD DVD is a stiff. |
