Default Intro of myself

I'm new to the site and just wanted to post a, "Hello I'm new" message. I own over 20 BD's and have been reading the forum on this site for a month now. Figured I would join it, as I've been finding myself coming to this site several times a day. I'm a BD junkie, and the last BD I bought was Blade runner Ultimate edition. It looks so nice in the package that I don't think I will ever open it. I would like to add a personal feeling that you can only call yourself a true BD lover if you own a standalone player.

Welcome to the site! And as to that final statement, well, that's open to discussion, and that's...well, what you just did. Let's see how it unfolds.

You say you dont want to open and play a Blu-ray because it looks nice in the package, but then claim you are a "true BD lover" because you own a standalone.

uh, welcome?

No.

But at least it has fast load times and PIP. I hear "true BD lovers" like those things.

I'm not trying to start a fight, although I will admit that my statement opens me up for one. I just feel that owning a PS3, makes you more of a gamer as opposed to a BD lover. Its like owning a PS2 and claiming to be a DVD freak. You bought the PS2 to play games on, not to watch movies. It just so happens that the machine has that extra feature. About Blade Runner, I feel like I'm a collector of BD's, and like any collector I want my stuff to stay nice. Once I open it, it won't be as nice as when It was wrapped up.

OK, a little offence was taken, but your new, so Ill let you off the hook, and in for a little secret, The PS3 is probably the best most "future proof" BD player out to date, and the majority of forum members own them, so be carefull how you word your opinions, as they could offend. For example, I could say since I own 10 times as many BDs as you, I love Blu-ray more, but that is just silly, and offensive.

What if I never played console games before I bought a PS3? I got a PS3 strictly as a BD player. The fact it plays games is just an added bonus.....

To say someone to more of a video game fan if they have a PS3 is ludicrous....

Well, I bought a PS3 (yes, I am a gamer) almost (I only say almost because I'm sure at some point some game will find its way into my machine) solely for the Blu Ray aspect. Right now I have 12 BDs, another 6 on preorder, and 0 games for my PS3. The ONLY thing I have used it for at all in the last month and a half is watching my Blu Rays and DVDs.

For me, I just so happen to have a BD player right now, that also came with the added bonus of being able to play some darn fine video games, and I have a VERY good future-proof Blu Ray player.

To say I don't truly love Blu Rays is poppycock.

But welcome aboard.

Again. what does having a PS3 and liking video games have anything to do with being a Blu-ray fan?

BTW: If you were such a Blu-ray fan, you yould dump your 1.0 no PIP, Ethernet port, fast load time player and get a PS3.

I feel it is fair to say that the vast majority of people that buy a PS3 buy it because it plays games. My point is that if you buy a standalone you have to be a BD fanatatic otherwise you wouldn't have spent that money.

Each to their own, mate. I just consider myself a smart consumer who gets a kick out of all kinds of electronics and gadgets.

When I set out to look for a Blu player, I could have gotten any one I wanted. But since they all were roughly the same in price, and because of all the fantastic reviews of the PS3 I had read (solely based on its Blu capabilities mind you) I decided to go with what would give me the most bang for my buck. If it also plays games (in my mind) so be it.

As for my fanaticism, again, I've had it for just a month, almost at 20 BDs (AND I'm importing), and 0 games. I haven't even come close to buying/renting or otherwise putting anything in my machine other than a BD/DVD.

I am as fanatical a movie buyer as I can be. I don't need a standalone player to prove it. If you don't believe I'm fanatical with this stuff, ask my wife.
