hey guys, i was trying to play mp3's off of a portable drive i have. on it i have playlist files (m3u). does the ps3 recognize these? as far as i can tell, the answer is no. second, is it better, if this is a no, for me to put all of my mp3's on my portable drive into a single folder rather than multiple artist folders? as far as i can tell, the ps3 doesn't search subfolders. so, if you have multiple levels of artists and such you can't play all of your media. am i correct in this or missing something?

This should be on the list of things that SCE should work on.
Recognizing m3u files is one thing (my DVD player don't recognize it) but an iTunes like software interface would be great. What would be greater if the software IS a PS3 version of iTunes or PS3 version of WinAmp (I know most people like this one). That way you clear off using your computer for ripping and using the Cell it would be hypothetically faster to use. To answer the op, try creating a folder called MUSIC then copying some of the folders in there. See if you can navigate through your HDD like that. If it works, then all is well. I think this method worked when I tried it. It played 20 Year Old (yeah, Janet rocks!) flawlessly and in sequence. Making a video playlist and saving the playlist is not in the PS3 cards right now, I don't think. fuad |

the problem is not necessairly looking at the folders. that i can do. the problem is play subfolders and queing up all the music. most of mp3's are arranged like this:
music --> artist --> mp3 artist --> album --> mp3 what i would like is if i could select all the folders in my "music" folder and it will search the subfolders for mp3's and put them in my cue. as far as i know, as is, i have to go to each artist or down to the album level to load those mp3's but can't play anything else. a better option of course would be that the m3u file can be loaded up and can play anything there. |
