I am sure this is a basic question, but ....
If your TV already has upscaling capabilities, do you need a receiver that upscales? I have the Sony XBR4 and I just dont think that I need a receiver that upscales because the TV already does it? Am I wrong? What would be the benefit of connecting a satellite box to a receiver that upscales and then to a TV that upscales? Thanks for your help. |

receivers do not necessarily "upscale" so to speak.
They (some not all) take the Analog inputs (Component, s-video, composite) and output them over the digital HDMI connection at a certain resolution... if you feed it HDMI, no conversion will take place. What goes in will come out. |

Wow, I actually understand that explanation (I feel good about that).
Crackinheds - Okay, so for my next question...I know you are a Pioneer Elite fan so you are the perect person to ask....I JUST hooked up my Pioneer Elite 92TXH...and after hooking it up, I am wondering if I bought too much of a receiver for my knowledge base, basically I think it might have too many features that I either dont know how to use or that I will never use. I guess I am trying to justify in my mind buying this receiver when I dont even know how to use half the things on it. And when I read the manual, I am like "huh?" For instance, I have been able to hook up the 6 surround speakers (havnt bought the subwoofer yet so it isnt hooked up).... but now I have another speaker in the dining room and one in the kitchen...I have read the manual and based on the reading, I am only going to be able to hook up one of those speakers into the rear auxillary, but there is no where to hook-up the other speaker, so I am confused by this. Do I have to buy an additional "something" to hook into the receiver to connect the eighth speaker? |

looks like for zone 3 , you would need a separate amp with optical inpout...perhaps a cheapo amp with optical input to sit in the kitchen or dining room?
if thats not an option, then you would have to share zone 2 for both dining room and kitchen. One connects into the rear back left, and the other into the rear back right. |

Sorry for the delay in response, but today I just got a chance to try connecting it the way you suggested and I have also bee studying the manual. I wanted to share Zone 2 for the dining room and kitchen speakers, but I cant connect the kitchen to the RBR and the dining room to the RBL because I have to use one of those speaker connections for my surround sound because I have six surround in-wall sound speakers in the family room. So I tried using Zone 2 for the kitchen speaker by connecting it to the rear back right....and I did not get any sound out of it. Then I tried using Zone 2 for the kitchen speaker by connecting it to the rear back left and I still did not get any sound out of it. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. And thanks for taking the time to read the manual and helping me...I appreciate that. |

Yes, I selected "Zone 2" in surround sound back setting and got no sound. And then I tried selecting "speaker B" in the surround sound back setting and that didnt work either.
