Default TV/Movies That Make You Think

I don't intend to sound conceited with this thread, but here goes...

I know there are a lot of bad movies out there, and a quick (or long) surf through the channels occasionally makes me wonder how much crap is really out there on TV.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my fair share of mindless entertainment. I'm not a snob. I'll willingly admit my 3 favorite movies, in order, are The Wizard of Oz, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and Newsies.

But now with BD, and picture quality looking better than ever, I feel more inclined to watch bad movies, as long as they look good.

However, I can only watch so many badly written shows/movies before I start to wish for something more.

That being said, I'm wondering what everyone out there would think of as being the most intellectually stimulating or engaging movie/TV show they've seen.

Two recent ones I've watched that come to mind (and feel free to disagree) are L.A. Confidential and The West Wing. While not necessarily the best examples, I was trying to think of recent ones, instead of just quoting the typical ones (Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, etc).

Wrong forum as the breadth of movies to be discussed will get bigger if you include movies yet to be released on BD.
