Kentwood, LA.
Sony Pictures Masters of the Universe

Mattel Films, firmly taking control of their toy properties, in partnership with Columbia, will produce a new 3D, live-action feature based on "Masters of The Universe", with Art Marcum & Matt Holloway writing a new screenplay. Expected to release in 2020.

Cool, thanks. Master of the Universe, the original film, with Dolph Lundgren, was on over this past weekend on national broadcast TV. It was entertaining, but not very accurate to the cartoon series by Filmation, which is classic.

Above is some fan news on the new movie, but all I could find as there is no trailer yet. It's reported that Orko might not be accurate in the film, and instead look like a tiny person instead, who doesn't float. But don't quote me on that.

Otherwise, things look extremely early for this film at the moment, as the news is that they're still working on a draft of the script for January 2019.

Sounds great, bring it on. The 80's movie is fun but it kind of sucks that so much of it takes place on Earth.

I have to admit the 1987 movie is a guilty pleasure for me. Very interested
in seeing how they'll update the world of He-man and how they use the 3-D.

On a side note, Anthony De Longis, who played Blade in the Masters of the Universe movie, also provided the likeness and voice of Zygon in the 3-D
animated Starchaser: The Legend of Orin (1985).

I worry it will be someone scrawny. They need some buff people in this movie. Men and women.

Whoever they choose as He-Man, should hopefully be as built as The Rock or Jason Momoa. Schwarzenegger and Stallone are both too old at this point, unless they use age regression special effects, but then they won't sound like He-Man/Adam.
Chris Hemsworth, I'm not sure, though he's good as Thor. Then there's that guy Kellan Lutz, who played in Legend of Hercules. Okay, I just looked up his info and unless it's not correct:

Kellan Lutz is slated to be the next He-Man.

I'm not sure it will be Lutz, I know he was being touted quite some time ago but it wouldn't surprise me if they go with established star or go the other way with a total unknown.

If Lutz did get cast though that'll mean he's played He Man, Tarzan, Hercules and an Expendable.

I really enjoyed the Hercules movie starring Lutz. If I remember correctly the 3D was even pretty good.

EDIT: Here's the He-Man intro to the famous Filmation series.

If they're not going to try to recreate Orko as he should be from the cartoon series, then I'm not sure they have the right team working on this, but I'll keep an open mind. At least make him float and have similar clothes and those eyes in the hood. The rumor is, that he'll be a small man but nothing more and won't float.

Yes, native 3D in Legend of Hercules, ranging mostly in the strong 3D layering range most times. Really enjoyed the 3D other than a few converted shots that looked odd here and there. The movie was entertaining, and when I originally saw it in 3D theaters, I was shocked how such a low budget film got the 3D so right by offering stronger 3D. The movie tanked in theaters overall, but was still entertaining. Critics said it wasn't historically accurate of all criticisms on Hercules, who was just a myth.

Strong filmed 3D much of the time, definitely worth watching. Some converted shots are milder. He's built strong in that film, so I think he'd pass for He-Man. Just needs to develop his acting a bit more.

Tarzan? I didn't know he played that role, thanks for the info. But yes, Expendables 3 also.

Man i absolutely loved the original, no idea why it seems to not be rated? A classic imo. But i had no knowledge of the franchise before so maybe long term fans didn't like the direction it went in.

Hopefully they're almost done with the script so they can start planning pre-production stuff.
