What is the difference between these Denons - Blu-ray Forum

I have looked at these two Denon's side by side and can't figure out what the difference is other than model number.

Denon AVR-988
Denon AVR-2808CI

The 2808 has Analog to HDMI conversion with scaling, it has 3 zone audio capabilities as opposed to 2 with the 988, and the 2808's remote is learnable, as opposed to the 988's which is just pre-programmed.

The 988 weighs about a pound more.....

That's all I can tell!

the Audio chips are identical (Burr-browns, I believe?). The scaling should be as well (both should scale to 720p or 1080i through HDMI -- they both got the old Faroudja DCDi)

the 2808CI has a few more features mainly for custom installation (multizone features) and I think a 12v trigger (not sure if the 988 has that).

For most people either would be fine, but if they are same price I'd go with the CI (I like the look of it better and I believe there are more secret menus in the CI versions to play with)
