Default BD/DVD Voice Audio low on TV?

On my TV (specs below), the sound for TV is perfectly fine.

However, when playing a BD or DVD, I find myself having to boost the audio to the 40's for adequate sound (if its on more than 25 for TV, I consider it too loud). I can overlook that, but my issue is that no matter how high the volume is for BD/DVD, vocal audio is sometimes so low I can barely make out what is being said.

I did 'switch' the PS3 function that relates to this, but it did little to help.

Any suggestions/info about this? Thanks.

Sorry, that's normal. If the normal sound of dialogue was as loud as your normal TV signal (ie, as loud as it can go - your TV broadcaster is compressing the sound and making it as 'impressive' as possible), there would be no headroom to make LOUD noises jump out at you. That would make things like loud door slams/gun shots/nuclear explosions utterly drab and uninteresting.

You can turn on dynamic range compression in your PS3 (which does something similar to what the TV networks do), but it won't 'fix' the basic issue you're seeing, because it isn't a problem - it's what makes BD/DVD sound so much better than your TV.

The real solution : buy an amp and speakers to really understand how good home theatre audio can sound.
