Default I am through with DVDs

I have had a blu-ray player for a few months now and I have about 50-60 BR movies. Luv it to death and wouldn't take anything for my HT system. But, I have 225-250 dvds that I have not watched since the HD movie revolution. Will watch a dvd chick-flick with the wifey when forced. I have bought less than five dvds in the past 6 months...what do I do with these things. They just don't measure up to BR; just perpetuating the cycle once again with the new BR movies. We know they are just waiting for us to buy our favorite movies then they will release the next-gen player.

Am I the only one that has swept their hard earned money under the rug and making another mess that will have to be swept up in the next 3 or 4 years?

I only plan on getting DVDs instead of Blu-ray when they are or will not be available in Blu-ray format.

NO, when HDDVD and Bluray first started i had about 400 standard dvd's. Part way through i said F regurlar dvd's and sold them all and used the money to buy Bluray movies and a few HDDVD's ( I had the cheap 360 add on). I can hardly stand watching dvd's anymore, they look like garbage to me, even upconverted, if its not in hd i basically dont want to watch in. The only exceptions i make are for older black and white movies and animation. So unless i cant get the animated movie on BR then i will watch the standard dvd.
Yeah i know I lost alot of money when i sold the dvd's but i dont really care, I expect this to happen when new technology comes out, the new and improved replaces the old. Hopefully blu sticks around for awhile so we dont have to worry about selling our collections.

If they are not available on Blu-ray, they do not get watched by me.

There are just a few things left that I will buy on DvD.

The Silverhawks was one of them this past week.

I don't think there is much they could have done with that show.

I may get the Smurfs, but definitely no more movies.

Any movies (pre-HD war) that I would want, I already own on DvD and most of them are being release Blu now anyway. So it works out.

This is written with all due respect, but if you wish to flame me or whatever...be my guest.

Although some of you might have 100, 200, 300 DVD's, you can't be movie lovers if you say that DVD is crap now just because you have a Blu-ray player. Many of the titles in your arsenal won't be released on BD for some time to come, so are you going to miss out on watching a great movie just because it isn't BLU? I don't understand that logic at all.

I have about 54 BD's, yet I still rent and yes buy DVD. There are many movies out there that I remember fondly and want to watch again. If it's on BLU sure I'll go with that. But if not, BLU be damned...I want to be entertained and I don't base my movie watching criteria on PQ/AQ alone.

All of this sounds to me like Blu-ray snobbery! Go ahead and miss out on some great entertainment if you must. I think I'll go ahead and watch "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" on DVD.

+1. BD has a LONG way to go to catch up. DVD titles are well over the 100,000 mark, while BD just passed the 1,000 mark a couple of months ago.

I stopped buying DVDs almost a year before BD came out. As successful as DVD has been, it was a transitional format that was primed, timed, and marketed perfectly, but had limited longevity due to the switch to HD. The most significant upgrade we'll likely see in HT technology in the foreseeable future is a move to 3D (unless you believe downloads will someday be more attractive than packaged media - I don't, at least not for a very long time, and I believe there will always be appeal for owning a physical copy of the films we love, much the same as book collections.) As I understand it, the move to 3D shouldn't require new software; only new players and possibly new displays.

I now view DVD as mostly a renters format for it's lack of longevity. If there's something unavailable and not announced on BD that I just can't wait to watch in the full fidelity that BD offers, I'll rent it on DVD to sate my urges, but not buy. Maybe some films will never come to DVD, and those that I'm skeptical of just that, I make exceptions for. But there are few films that I love, which are so obscure they will probably never see a high definition birth. And with all the new films and catalog titles coming to the format, I'm plenty busy with those. Putting off watching Star Wars for a few years when Lucas finally gets around to BD, will just heighten the experience, like seeing them again for the very first time.

I had a 500+ DVD collection that started in 1997. Got rid of most of them for Blu. All I kept were my theatrical shorts collection (Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, ect.).

Your post, however eloquantly it was written, smacks of sooth-sayer prophecy. You're answering with an "I told you so opinion "( not fact) and not addressing the issue of the OP. Make up your mind! What is it? Do you watch DVD still? Or do you only watch BD now, because we have BD?

If it's new technology you want to address..start another post. BTW, should I dump my BD's now? Any forecast you can provide would be appreciated.

I will not buy another first run movie on DVD as long as the BD is available, but I'm not about to part with 800 DVDs unless there is a BD to replace a title and it is worthy of the double dip.

+1, except with the 800 DVDs part. I only have like 20 standard DVDs. Glad I waited to start buying movies on a larger scale 'till Blu-ray came out.

I still watch my regular dvd's upconverted, It's not that bad. I just can't afford to run out and buy every movie I want on Blue right now. It's better then watching them on tv converted with comerical interuptions.

I still like dvd's... they aren't beneath me and, in many cases, look just fine. I really do enjoy the new HD audio, however.

It's funny, we probably all watch stuff on YouTube.... but no, we are too good for DVD lol. I still watch DVDs, YouTube, sometimes I just wanna watch something in particular - not going to sit around, wonder if it was filmed in HD, then wait for someone to release it on Blu-ray.

Thanks for taking the time to type this out so I didn't have to...... I'm tired of hearing all of this "I can't watch DVD now" B.S. because that's what it is.....

Go buy your Iron Man and Transformers Blu-Rays.... I'm gonna go watch one of my many classics on DVD..... I love my Blu-rays also, but it takes more than PQ and AQ and Extras to beat a timeless classic like Citizen Kane, or Lawrence of Arabia.

I have about 1,200 Standard DVDs...... not nearly as many Blu-rays, but I'll get there with time
