Default Is this PC build good?

Is this a good PC build for gaming on a budget of $1500? This is my first time building a PC by the way.

Case- Cooler Master Storm Sniper
Motherboard- Asus P7P55D-E
CPU- Intel Core i5 75 0
Videocard- Sapphire Radeon HD 5870
Memory- Patriot 2x 2GB DDR3 (PGS34G1333ELK)
Solid-State Drive- Intel X25-M 80GB
Hard Drive- Seagate 7200.12 1TB
Power Supply- Corsair CMPSU-650HX (650W)
Optical Drive- Samsung SH-S223
Operating System- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

If not what do you suggest? Also can this play newer games and games like Crysis on max, i'm not sure? Thanks.

Seems like one hell of a rig man.

I'm still quite new to this stuff and haven't played Crysis just yet... but judging from A LOT of videos I've seen on youtube, a rig like this would definitely be able to play Crysis on High settings but around 25 to 40fps.

Newer games would run fine though(Crysis will always run crappy, Crytek are terrible at coding there games)

I have an i7 2.80GHz CPU, 6GB of ram, ATI 5850 GPU and it runs newer games from medium to high settings most of the time pretty smoothly.

Definitely man, although you might want to upgrade your ram at some point but that sounds like a killer rig.

I have the whole GTA collection, Mirrors Edge and Dead Rising 2 so far... and they all run great.

The only one that runs my rig hot is GTA IV but GTA lV Episodes From Liberty City runs soother and looks A LOT better.

First off I would not get the 5870 get either the 6870 which is cheaper, unless you found a good deal on the 5870 or go for a 6950. Also you can save money if you get the OEM version of windows 7 64bit. its only 100 dollars. If you don't want to get that one, just get the upgrade version of windows 7, then install it over itself after you install it the first time. it works perfectly, that way you save 100 dollars on the OS. I have no idea why people even buy the full version when it is the exact same as the upgrade. Also, this will play crysis but probably only 25 -40FPS on highest settings.

CPU- i7 870 $290

Mobo- Asus $129

Video Card- $290 AMD Asus 6950 2GB

Windows 7 OEM - $99

PSU -Corsair 650 $90

6GB Corsair Memory $75

The memory you had was not in the compatible memory list of the motherboard you wanted. I so looked up which ones would work and this 6GB of DDR3 memory from corsair is good. It is what I use in my intel builds and it is compatible with your motherboard.

Just add the price of the case, the harddrives and the CD drive to what I found for you. This would be a way better build.

Make sure the HDD and DVD drive you get are SATA and not IDE

I found the Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 for $219. Also i saw someone make the exact build i mentioned in the OP and everything worked together.

pretty decent build. I'd go with more RAM though... also I'd not choose Patriot... they're ok, but nothing special...

Gskill
Corsair

are the 2 I'd go with off the top of my head

also agree on the 5870.... get the 6870 if you can.. also I'd follow the advice about saving money on the Windows 7 build by getting the upgrade or the OEM version

save money on the case too. and get a better one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146062

that's teh NZXT temptest.... it's a freaking ice box of a case. well designed and under $100
also one last thing... I noticed you're a little underpowerd on the PS... Id got for 800 watts or above

with something like that build (6 gigs of ram is minimum what I'd get) and you'll do FINE for just about anything

Blu-ray1,

No need to get the 5870 with older tech. Get the 6950 For the same price (for the HIS and PowerColor cards on NewEgg). You get an extra GB of memory and it's better with tessellation amongst other newer features the 5000 series either doesn't have or isn't better with.

800 watts would be pointless. His mobo doesn't support crossfire or SLI, so he is never going to use it. If he could get an 800watt for the same price why not, but no need if its more expensive.

future proof... you can always toss in a better MOBO down the road etc... hell, my video card alone requires min of a 600 watt supply

I always love how they tell you to use a certain wattage PSU, however the wattage isn't really what matters, what matters is the amps, so why can't they just say to make sure your PSU supplies so many amps on the +12v rail.

My 750W PSU supplies around 60 amps on the +12v rail. back in the day of the 939 AMD chips, the Mobo alone required 18 amps, I imagine it may still be close to that. As far as Vid cards, I'm not sure how many Amps they require these days, but as graphics get more intense they would need more power. However, on the flip side as the circuitry gets smaller and smaller it requires less energy to run.

Anyways, the only spec that I would make better would be the RAM, increase to at least 6GB. I would also agree with everyone else to buy the OEM version of Win 7 and save some money there. The only difference is that you have to provide your own Windows support (you can't call MS to troubleshoot any windows issues you may encounter). Personally I have Win 7 Pro, and the reason I got it was that you can go to MS and downlaod an XP virtualizer that will run a full version of XP in a virtual window in case you have any programs that won't run on Win 7. This virtual XP will read your CD drives, usb drives, and get updates just like normal XP would.

I've been out of PC Gaming for a little while (Been console gaming lately), however I am running Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas on my rig at nearly full settings and it's perfectly smooth. I'm sporting:

AMD Phenom Black @ 2.5GHz
MSI nvidia AM2 Platinum board
eVGA 8800GT overclocked Vid Card
Silverstone 750W Modular PSU
4GB Corsair DDR2 RAM
3 x 1TB WD Caviar Black Edition HDs
Creative Sounblaster Platinum audio card

You can run pretty much every game smooth with that system thanks to the xbox 360 and the PS3. Or more thanks to developers not using the resources they have at hand.

*snort... unfortunately... I miss the good old days when cutting edge tech was all placed on the PC's shoulders (being that it was the only thing that could support stuff like that )

I think I shall be enjoying both alot. Afterall graphics whilst important are not as important as game play. Plus as good as battlefield 3 looks I doubt it will be on the same level as crysis 2.
