Canada Amazon question (shipping to US)

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but was wondering if anyone knows why postage from Canada is so expensive. I've ordered quite a few items from amazon.uk and was going to order some blu's from amazon.ca but the shipping charges are way too expensive to justify it (almost as much as the blu ray). I don't understand how shipping a movie from canada is more expensive than shipping it from England.

Anyone know if there is a way to avoid these high charges when buying from Amazon canada?

No way to avoid it really, so far as I know. Us Canadians have similar issues when ordering from the USA. But yet, yes, shipping to Canada from the UK is also pretty reasonable.

No there's no way to get around that outrageous shipping charge for us in the US sadly. I've only ordered from them once and that was because it was a blu I could ONLY get there (Valhalla Rising). I didn't realize how much the shipping came out to till the order was already in process (which they seemed to do within 10 min). So I just figured, oh well, now I know for next time.

So I guess, check auction or selling threads first so that maybe you can save a few bucks on the shipping, unless it's a title exclusive to Canada and you have to get it there. And be mindful of price drop so that you can combine orders to save a bit on shipping too.

Only good thing is that since the shipping is so high, it is like overnight delivery.

Yeah I have no idea either why Amazon CA charges so much to ship to the US. I thought I had a way around it too but my "clever" plan got foiled. I was going to use the free within Canada shipping to have stuff sent to a friend in Windsor who would then repost them to me either from Windsor or from across the border in Detroit. I couldn't find a way to make it work out cheaper once Canadian taxes came into the mix. I order Canadian stuff from iNet or if it's an Alliance release look for it first at stores that carry their discs locally here (FYE's and MicroCenter have em for some reason).

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, was mainly wondering for some of the releases that seem to only be available in Canada (From Dusk til Dawn, Valhalla Rising, Martyrs, etc). Guess i'll just have to wait for price drops to make the shipping charges easier to handle!
