Default GRID - Steering Wheel Disaster

I bought GRID on Wednesday and was psyched to use it with my Logitech G25 steering wheel. During the first race, I was all over the place and couldn't keep the car on the road. As I was driving down a straightaway, the car just started roaming from left to right to the point where I was turning the wheel left and right like a madman just trying to compensate, but I wasn't able to keep the car on the road and would crash straight into the wall after a short time. Once it started roaming, which was soon after accelerating, there was no way to keep it on the road.

I went into the settings and tweaked some of the force feedback and advanced wheel settings. One in particular was for helping the car stay in a straight line while driving. Just to gauge where it should be set, I set it to it's highest setting. I don't remember for sure, but it may have been on 4 and I set it to the max of 10. When the race started, I wasn't able to turn the car at all no matter how far I turned the steering wheel. Why the heck would they have a max setting like that?

So, I went back in and lowered it as well as experimented with the rest of the settings. I played for about an hour trying to tweak the settings and nothing produced an even remotely normal driving experience. I finally got totally frustrated and used the dual shock 3 and the cars drove fine. After spending an hour of tweaking with the wheel settings and not being able to get through one lap without slamming the walls over and over, the first time I used the dual shock 3, I came in first in my car class. There's definitely something whacky going on with the wheel support. It seems like the game wasn't developed properly to utilize it.

Has anyone else tried using a steering wheel with GRID and if so, have you had these issues? If anyone has successfully used a G25, can you post what settings you're using?

Thanks.

I tried my Logitech DF GT5 wheel with the Demo of GRID and with the default settings found driving to be "loose". I too tried to adjust some of the settings and didn't have much luck, if I remember right it kinda sounds like what your describing. With Default settings I could not do the Drift to save my life, I tried the BMW and just had a fun but difficult time. I was going to buy GRID this week but decided to wait. I am still actively playing NFS Prostreet and hooked on GT5 Prologue online. GRID is fun, I like the half simulator/arcade style racing. I honestly prefer GT5 Prologue since it does take driving skill and technique - NO NITRO Boosts, cheating to get unrealistic runs such as 5.5 in Drag mode.

I used the Driving force pro with the demo. While the cars were indeed loose they were not undrivable. The wheel was good enough that I beat both the posted world records in the euro and ebay challenges. (though not even close to the top 5 on the website) It took a bit to get used to driving them as opposed to the Gran Turismo setup. I have not tried the actual game yet so maybe the made some more modifications.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. I tried the steering wheel again and the steering just isn't right. It's completely different when using the steering wheel vs using the dual shock 3. The cars behave completely differently.

With GT5P, the steering wheel is much more fun and realistic than the dual shock 3, but at least the cars behave the same way whether you're using the wheel or the controller.

Something is definitely not right with at least the Logitech G25 that I've attempted to use with GRID.

Sounds like Codemasters doesn't know how to program for the wheel. I know Race Driver for the PS2 had similar problems with the wheel.

Since this posting references the game GRID.... minus the steering wheel issues, hows the game ? What would you rate it for someone that doesn't ever plan on using the wheel and staying strictly with the dual shock controller? I heard the game is very fun and looks really good. How does it complete with GT5 prolouge. Thanks,

I would say Dirt had major issues with the steering wheels also. It was easier to win competitions with the controllers than the steering wheel.

Hey, don't feel bad- I couldn't keep the car off the walls even with the controller!

The game looks and sounds ridiculously good, though! (judging from the demo) It's incredible to see a driving game running this slick and with such production value on a ps3, right out of the gate. The Need for Speed gang looked like they were still trying to figure the hardware out by the looks of their last title. Gran Turismo always seems a bit "sterile", and what group would know better about the latest tricks to do on Sony hardware? Yet, Grid takes it to a whole different level, from out of nowhere, it seems (aside from the steering wheel tuning).

Once again, forgive me for being a novice, but might this be something that could be patched by Codemasters over time?

I got my G25 racing wheel today and opened up my promo copy of grid at the same time.
I had lots of fun, but it did turn out A LOT harder than I expected to control.

I have gold medal times on a few of the races on F1 with the sixaxis yet on Grid I finished last on all my races till I got to my team selection and first season.

I was still having fun at this point, although had settled to understanding that I was not able to drive in control over about 90mph.

I find the steering to be pretty good with my current settings, the biggest problem I see with the game is the acceleration. (hense I have dampened that down quite a lot.) I might see what some 0-100mph are like on some of the cars.

I'm going to Persevere with it, I can get round San Fran sprint now without crashing in under 2mins.

anyway, feel free to friend request me on PS3 for some Racing.
ID: Boase

My Current G25 Grid settings are as follows
Force Strength:80%
Weight: 100%
Effects: 70%

Steering Dead: 0%
Steering Saturation: 70%
Steering Linearity: -3
Acceleration Dead: 50%
Acceleration Sat: 100%
Brake Dead: 10%
Brake Saturation: 100%
900 Degree Wheel: On.

I also rigidly depress the clutch when I change gear, just because I am sad like that.

Cheers
KJB
