Default Klipsch Sub Owners ???

I've read reviews on here in regards to klipsch subs, and i've heard not so great reviews about them....but people who make those comments...don't own them.......so i'm looking for reviews with people that currently own or who have owned...or people who have actually heard in person.....

RW-12d Subwoofer or RW-10d Subwoofer..... I know there are "better specs" in other sub's in the price range...but i'd like to have a matching reference set regardless of timber matching not being a factor for subs....plus i can get a real good deal on the 12d atm.....but i dont want to have a matching set if the sub is not worthy any insight would be great...worth the money or no?

( i know about the av123 and svs, i want to know about klipsch subs )

thanks

there's better subs out there..... every speaker manufacturer (well not all I guess) make subs.....

I have two B&W setups, but no B&W subwoofers.... I just find much better value out there than B&W subs, even though I love their speakers (obviously)

Velodyne, Def Tech, ML, M&K all make good subs.... The Cyclinder type sub people talk about (sorry can't remember what it is... SVI or something) is highly praised as well... but I must admit I have not auditioned one because I've never seen one in a showroom.

EDIT... SVC or whatever... I guess you know about it! sorry! (Reeding Komprehention is may specelty )

What you might want to do, if your dealer has a good return policy, is to buy the Klipsch sub, take it home, and audition it and see how you like it. I know when I was in the market, I tried out Boston, Velodyne, and Klipsch subs through my local dealers and then ordered the HSU for an audition(which I kept).

The Klipsch aren't bad at all and definitely worth considering if you can get a good deal on it. The real test is when you get it home, set it up, and give it a listen.

I had a Klipsch KSW-10 for my first sub. It was a good first sub but there are certainly better out there. I also compared the KSW-10 to the RSW-10 when I bought it and could not justify the large increase in price for the small increase in sound.

I have since gotten an SVS 20-39PC+ and it blows them both out of the water, not even close. While the RSW sounds better than the KSW, it doesnt play much deeper than the KSW. The SVS goes far deeper than both, which is great for home theater. I was also surprised at how musical the SVS was, especially for its size.

Bottom line: Skip the Klipsch sub, there are better out there. And while I recommend SVS to lots of people, you should also check out HSU and av123, all three are better than the Klipsch.

That is the true test. I work for a retailer who sells Klipsch, I love Klipsch speakers.. There subs are a bit boomy for my personal taste.
Thy to find a store with a return policy for speakers, take it home tweak it in and see for your self. If your happy, then the world is a good place. If not just bring it back (be sure to save all packing) and try something else.
As you can see I prefer the Martin Logan subs but there are a lot of good ones available..

I've got the KSW-10 and am happy with it. I will admit I spent considerable time tweaking it, but I've got it where I like it and it fits well with my room, which isn't too big. I have my speakers hooked in through it, so that handles the crossover. I'd like for the rcvr to do that, but when I just have the speakers connected to the rcvr and I listen to music, the sound gets too bright when I turn up the volume. In the near future I plan on spending the day tweaking that more, but it needs to rain first, so I have an excuse to stay indoors.

I agree with what everyone has said here. I own a Klipsch Sub-10(Synergy series) and it's alright. It can be a bit boomy and is not as musical as I'd like. Of course, placement has as much to do with the sound of the sub as anything. I live in an apartment, and really have a limited amount of space for it, so my placement options aren't great. I owned a Def Tech Supercube I before this and the Klipsch doesn't even come close. The Reference series subs are better than Synergy subs, but still not the tightest bass out there. Klipsch subs are best known for output. Why do I have a Klipsch sub then? It was a Xmas present from my GF. If I had the choice, I would have gone with another Def Tech. For my money, it's the way to go. I would suggest checking out either a Supercube III or ProSub 1000. They are both in the same price neighborhood as the RW-12 and I'm positive would outperform it.

I love this subwoofer (12inch) It is a downfiring sub, so it sounds a lot better, than most. Yes you have to tweak it. Check out a Bestbuy's 5.1 surround sound show off, behind the Home Theater check out.

It should be a klipsch, with blu-ray and a Panny, try it out right there. You can always buy it somewhere else.

thanks
I have two of the RW-12d subs. (note: had to edit, they're the SUB-12 model, not the RW-12d's! Apologies for the confusion) They deliver the sound - but are not very precise, and they have a lot of port noise. If you're sitting next to one, it's like sitting next to a steam engine.

They're also bulky as all get-out, and have hard plastic feet. If you don't have carpet (I have tile) they walk all over the floor. I had to put little rubber furniture feet under mine.

They also are pretty light in weight for a big sub, I don't think they're all that strong. Lots of resonance in the cabinet.

I like them, but finally got frustrated and went all out. Got a JL Audio Fathom. End of problem - relegated the Polks to the family room.

They're not expensive, under $400 if you look around, almost ten times cheaper than the Fathom - which I like ten times as much.

If you want an extremely kick-butt sub for the money, I suggest you read this article. Elemental Designs is in Newton, Iowa... not far from my home town.

http://www.hometheatersound.com/equi...igns_a5300.htm

Be warned, though... they build their subs to last (5 year warranty) and this 12" one weighs over 100 pounds!

I agree with you Beta. I had a Definitive Technology PF15TL 11 years ago and I thought it was the end all of subs...until I heard a friend of mine in Va that custom builds speakers. When he designed these (based on the Subwoofer section of a now discontinued Eggelston speaker), He invited me over to hear them. I was more than impressed! He got two of them together for me - are they ergonomic - by no means they are about 28 inches tall, 15 inch drivers, over 200 pounds each, 2 inches thick, and go low as all get out!!! I went with an active crossover from Paradigm and I hit magic!!! And I've heard the Klipsch subs before in a twin sub configuration - they are great, but I've heard better

I've said all of that to say this, there is always something else out there - like the BagEnd subs or the Signature Servo 15. or a WHOW sub from Wilson. What matters is that you like it!

The Martins are very nice ! I was trying to get a pair of Martin Logan CLS speakers for 1200.00 on Audiogon but he doesn't ship (this would have been a birthday present). If I could get my hands on a good set of CLS's for that price or lower I would really quit (with the exception of getting a matching center - in the case of Martins, I will use a horizontal center - I generally use vertical oriented center channel speakers). I would likely go for two Depth subs (to match the speed of the CLS).
