Default Questions about update 2.30 and DTS-HD MA on onkyo 606

After the announcement of update 2.30 for ps3 and the ability of using DTS-HD MA (and I think Dolby True HD too) I purchased an onkyo 606. My question is why when I am watching a fox blu ray which has DTS-HD MA why does the onkyo say that it is using PCM? I used to use audio on my ps3 with digital optical cables with my old setup, but am now using hdmi through my 606. So I changed the audio settings on my ps3, it showed a list of all available audio through hdmi. It showed dts 5.1 and dolby digital 5.1 but the rest were all different forms of pcm. Why can't I listen to my blu rays with the audio on disc when I have a receiver that is capable of it and the ps3 is supposed to be capable of it? I know very little about audio, so if this is a stupid question, I am sorry, but I am confused.

There is a 1000 threads on this already. The PS3 can only send PCM signals for the HD codec's to your receiver. The label on your receiver will only show the correct codec for those which are loss sound formats.

If you press select on your controller, change audio whilst the the select button is pressed you can see the codec being used. That is PCM'd to your receiver and what you hear is the right audio. If you want the label on your receiver to show the correct codec, you must get a standalone player.

thank you for clearing that up, sorry I posted something that had been posted before, I should have done better research, I just thought there might be some problem with my ps3 or my receiver. Thanks.

It's all good, everyone does it at some point whether knowingly or just unable to find it using search.

Your receiver is behaving as it should as well as your PS3, so that's great news!
