Default Best Sequel

We've been having a lot of "Best" treads. I figured I'd add one up!

How about best Sequel?

I'm going to have to go with The Godfather Part II.

I have said this over and over again. Aliens has got to be the best all-time sequel.

If you are into Aliens and Predator at all, you have to like the first Alien movie. It established the Alien creatures as tough to kill monsters. The alien bursting out of the stomach was displayed for the FIRST time in Alien.

But, back with Aliens was coming out, those of alive back then were wondering, "How in the hell are they going to get Ripley back to that planet"? No way she would go back! Then after watching the movie and the 1st 30 minutes or so (where they had to establish the reason for her returning, showing us how tough the space Marines were and setting up the story line) the action KICKED IN! I remember watching this movie for the first time thinking "How in the heck are they going to keep this up for another hour and 1/2"? Well, they did. Simply kick butt action and suspense the whole way.

While I liked Alien, I LOVED Aliens. Sequels are doing good just to approach the original title, but to BEAT it, that makes a darn good sequel!

The Empire Strikes Back took the characters from Star Wars and gave them more depth and better interaction. Luke wasn't a bright-eyed youngster anymore, as his scenes with Yoda clearly showed. It also provided some background to one of the more interesting villains in film and along the way gave the audience one thrill after another (The Asteroid Field is top notch). Looking back at it, it really IS one of the best films, which very easily could have stood on its own.

The Godfather Part II is considered by many critics THE best sequel. As far as story goes, it's engrossing. The Corleone family history is pretty much shown from inception to current time. Al Pacino is more riveting in it and Deniro is fantastic as Vito Corleone. I have watched it countless times and never found myself looking up at the clock.

As always, opinions will vary and that's what makes the world go round.

"Why don't you put her in charge?"

Hard to beat the directing and production of the first two.

I would have to go Cameron all the way with this question.

Terminator 2 or Aliens. Can't decide between the two.
