Default Help Please

hey guys whats up. i ordered my samsung 1000 off amazon for 600 and it should be coming soon. i have the hdmi cable from my hd dvd player so its all set up but the problem is that i have an lcd 26 in 720p tv but i have the settings on 1080i for everything. i was looking for some help/opinion from the people that do watch their blu-rays on a 720p tv. i was wondering if the picture was still great. thanks a lot

It's always best to match the TV and the player resolutions, so if you have a 720p TV you should be setting the player to 720p to match.

The picture should be great.

thanks jtk i appreciate it. i was just wondering though how come it matters to have the settings for a 720p tv at 720p and not 1080i. does it mess up the tv or something?

It won't mess it up, but the trick is: TV's like yours (an LCD) have a native resolution.

For the BEST picture, you always want to shoot as close to that native resolution as you can.

If you put 1080i in that, it'll probably be fine, but then you're introducing a conversion step and that might take a little something away from the end result.

Beyond that: Experiment and see what looks best to you. The worst that can happen is you get a black screen which means it can't display something and so you switch it to something else and you're good to go.
