Blu-ray going 1440p and 50Mbs + bitrate ?

Bluray specs says it can do upto 50Mbs bitrate. Is this limit due to storage space or is it due to the capabilities of the decoders?
Second. Can bluray do 1440p (hdmi 1.3a) in it's current state if the 100 and 200 gigs discs come out?

The reason that the movies never get up to bitrates that high is because of all the extras and different language audio channels everyone wants. What people don't realize is that if there were less extras-the movie could be a higher quality.

Totally agree. This is a very important point and something that people really need to be educated on.

yeah i think extras are a waste of space never once looked at them i would much rather have better pq and sq and no extras

Disney titles aren't too much expenses comparing to others...,from my 25 discs so far i barely watched extras or whatever.

Blu-ray 1x speed is 36.55 Mbps.
The BDA have mentioned that they could theoretically get up to 288 Mbps with an 8x drive.
They chose 1.5x for BD-Video with an a/v transfer cap of 48 Mbps.

Broadcast in North America tops out at 1920 X 1080 and therefore 99% of Displays in peoples homes will not display higher resolutions then that and therefore there is NO NEED for higher resolutions for Blu-Ray (not that it's possible anyway) and it WILL NOT HAPPEN! Seriously. If it can, it will. If not.. who cares! 1080p is so close to 2k it is already better than movie theaters.
If it is even possible, it won't happen for a long time. 1080 is the standard (and 720), and you will be hard pressed to find content bigger than that.

No, it's because it's often not necessary. There are piles of discs with no extras that don't fill the disc up.

It's very rare that the extras alone cause any change in video quality

Even at max bitrate, you've got 138 minutes on a BD-50

Blu-ray has a max of 40mbps for video, 20 mbps for audio, and combined they cannot exceed 48mbps total

BD-100 writeable is simply a lab sample at this point, and I"m highly skeptical they'll ever actually ship them. There has never been plans to even produce a commercial disc on BD-100, nor is there likely to be. Use the search function for more threads on the topic

4K will not be brought out at home, it's for theatrical presentation and mastering only.

Where did you read that? And no, 4K is FOUR times the resolution of 1080p.

Why would any sane person even want one? People should spend their money on a bigger size screen or higher quality screen rather then wasting it on phantom resolution.
