Metal Gear Solid 5 Could Be a Prequel
Ryan Payton also discusses Japanese development and Metal Gear Online.

Speaking in an interview with 1UP a week before the game's release, MGS4 assistant producer Ryan Payton said there is "still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned." When asked about the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid 5, Payton responded, "There are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game. But it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story. That's all."

"I'm happy we could wrap up Snake's story in MGS4," Payton stated earlier in the interview, continuing, "because it gets to the point where if we continue on with Metal Gear Solid 5 with more Solid Snake adventures, we'll get to the point where the game has absolutely no basis in reality. I do like the idea that this character has had four or five big missions and then that's when it ended, rather than have 20 missions where there's no chance in hell a secret agent could ever survive. He's had four or five really big missions, and that seems a little more realistic to me."

I'd love some more Big Boss stuff. I really enjoyed the less sci-fi ish ness of MGS3. Don't get me wrong, love me some MGS4 big time, but a slightly less complicated, less techno jargon MGS is awesome too. Plus it's like still having Snake.

I dont think a prequal with Raiden would be all that great unless it is between MGS2 and MGS4. Before MGS2 he just did VR training and I dont think a Raiden VR game would be all that grand. Maybe his transistion into the Raiden we see in MGS4 would be interesting.

I would vote for a Big Boss or The Boss game. But should they still call it Metal Gear? It would still be in the same universe, but havent we pretty much seen all the Metal Gears? But you could also argue that MGS3 really didnt have a Metal Gear either.

I think I would actually prefer leaving the series alone. It began with Solid Snake and maybe it should end with him.

think it could be about raiden and its only natural to tell the full story of raiden between mgs 2 and 4.

if they dont they could do 2 mgs games 1 a big boss prequel and mabey a raiden action game spin off.
thinking with raidens ninja skills a devil may cry/hevenly sword type game could be fun to play

They need to do a prequel with Big Boss.

1. It needs to be set around 1972 and the ending needs to resolve with the birth of Liquid and Solid Snake (from the les enfants terribles project).

2. Eva would return (obviously, she is the mother).

3. The Rise of the Patriots needs to be the focus of this game, and the main story is the falling out between Zero and Big Boss.

It would be the perfect MGS5 title. MGS4 ends with a lot of big revelations that you don't really think make sense if you had played MGS3 (Zero's, for one). This needs to be further fleshed out in another metal gear title.

They need to do a MG game focused around Meryl and the Rat Patrol. Id love to see how she formed it and play through their early adventures. She has quite a bit of story in the gap between MGS1 and 4

I think there's adequate gaps in the story for prequels. I also think they left the story "open" for sequels as well. The very end conversation between Snake and Otacon (when you see the MGS4 logo after the credits) sounds like Otacon is retiring. Sunny is the obvious replacement...
