Default Where are the 6X and faster dedicated BLU-RAY computer drives?

I was thinking about building another desktop PC and it appears that the LG 6X SuperBlue drive is the fastest on the market still. It does not look like anyone is making a dedicated BLUE RAY only computer drive that is 6X speed or faster yet. Pioneer has a 5X BLU-RAY drive but for around $38 more I can get a 6X LG Super Blue drive. I do not own any HD-DVD discs so I would prefer a 6X or faster BLU-RAY only drive when they arrive on the market. The faster drives are good for reading computer data and fast scanning thru a movie.

Additional 6x drives should be available from Lite-on and Panasonic (as an OEM for several other brands) late this year.

You have to realize that we are already approaching the speed cap for Blu-ray discs (around 8x CAV) due to the extremely fast spin rate required for burns at over 4x speed.

6x drives are being tested internally by just about everyone, but no one wants to release a new drive with 4x models just hitting shelves in masse, and with the current cost of Blu-ray media, no one wants to risk their burners creating coasters with any of the available media.

Honestly, the big issue right now is (still) burning of DL 50GB discs... much more than speed. Panasonic has had this down since the beginning... but everyone else's drives have issues with burning to the second layer. Once that issue is properly resolved, expect to see new burners from just about everyone (and with 6x BD-R SL speeds at that).

It will be interesting to see if they push writing speeds beyond 8x. At 8x, drives will be spinning at 8,000rpm, which is really nothing considering the latest crop of 22x DVD writers are spinning at more than 12,000rpm.

Media is the thing that has been holding back 6x BD writers. With Panasonic shipping 6x BD-R media later this month, we'll probably be seeing faster BD writers from companies other than LG in the near future.

If you don't need HD DVD support, LG has a few new drives on the way that support Blu-ray only.

Which drives have problems burning to DL discs?
