Default Klipsch quintet 3 owners.

Just wanted to know how they sound. I went to best buy to hear them but they didn't have a display for them.

They sound kinda muddy to me.... of course I used to work on a construction site, and was standing in the middle of 4 blast-zones when they simultaneously exploded due to a car passing by that didn't adhere to the warnings to turn off their radio-devices........ I only lost 87.2% of my hearing, so as long as your hearing is simular to this, I think you'll find them muddy as well.....

If your hearing isn't like mine, then I'd suggest you go to a store and listen to them.

Poonking is a ridiculous name. I have the quintet III. They are not high end or superfancy, I like the way mine sound though. I am sure you will get people here saying that (High end speaker company)'s sound much better. With a good receiver you will enjoy them.

I don't mean to laugh, but that story is kind of funny when read on an on-line forum. I am pretty sure I would have stabbed the driver of that car.

There aren't too many stores where i live that carry these speakers. My local best buy had a magnolia setup but, they didn't have them set up to hear them.

Poonking is a ridiculous name. Try them and if you don't like them, return them for a refund.

I usually see them sitting out at Best-Buy (check out around the AVRs, etc... and see if there are some in that section)

I'm surprised you aren't seeing them in your area.

*my point of the ficticious story was to emphasize the need to listen to things yourself*

Honestly, if money isn't a big issue, just buy them, and if you don't care for them, exchange them

What are you willing to pay? and obviously if you decided to get these, get them online... not at your local BB.

For the price they are strong speakers. If he buys locally it will be easier to exchange them if he doesn't like them.

I am impressed at the quality for the price. They're certainly better sounding than even a $1000 bose speaker package. I found them for only $300, and it's definitely worth it for that price. Very clear sounding with my Onkyo 605 receiver.

I have a Yamaha 661 (I know it will be replaced soon with a 663). You will be more than happy. I was making sure it was a $200 5.1 from 4 years ago.

I had them for years and was never impressed. I didn't know any better, which is why I bought them in the first place. They are WAY overpriced for what they offer. I probably paid $800 for the set with the crappy KSW-10 sub six years ago and have regretted it ever since.

I just bought the BIC 5.1 set (HT-75s, 65 center, 63 surrounds, H-100 sub) for $750 shipped from Sound Distributors and they completely BLOW the Klipschs away. There is absolutely no comparison whatsoever.

There's no comparison between satellite speakers and full range tower speakers in general. So my opinion would be to get towers that sound good to you. These Klipsch satellites have no range at all - very thin sounding, crappy center channel that makes it horrible for dialog in a movie (my girlfriend was always asking why she couldn't hear people talking over the background noise and music), and just an all around rip off. If you get them for $100, then I'd say maybe get them. Otherwise, save your money - it's better spend elsewhere.

Of course, if you listen to them and you like them, then forget everything I just said

And, whatever you do, stay very far away from their atrocious KSW-10 sub. Thumping my foot on the floor produces better bass than that thing.

Just my .02, of course...

Since OP is satisfied I will hi-jack this thread
How big of a step up would RC-52, RB-61 and RS-42 (surrounds not final yet) combo be over the quinted speakers?

Are you sure your talking about the Quintet III and not the 2's? Quintet III has only been out for about 2 years. The way you describe them, I have that many times about the II and that there was a huge difference in the upgrade from the II' to the III's.

I have the the III's and use them for my surround with 2 towers up front to make the set a 7.2

I love them, I was a little worried about using the Onkyo 805 on them but they hold there own to it.
