William R. Moses has joined the indie drama The Mental State, which has begun production in New York state.

Based on the play of the same name by Josh Adell, The Mental State tells the story of 17-year-old Andy and his relationship with his family, classmates and a mysterious recluse in the woods who convinces him that there is a town-wide conspiracy.

William Popp (Homeland, The Path) has also joined a cast which includes Bryan Greenberg, Carly Pope, Alyssa Sutherland and Jance Enslin. James Camali is directing.

Matthew Einstein is producing the film via Tradition Pictures, along with Glen Trotiner and Ronnee Swenton of Out of Shot Productions. Geno Camali is executive producing.

“We feel that our tremendously talented cast will rise to the challenge of bringing these nuanced and complicated characters that Josh Adell created to life, while continuing in the legacy of the play, which has been performed in high schools nationwide,” Einstein said.

“It is our sincere hope that the film will spur an open national dialogue regarding the stigma surrounding mental health and gun violence in schools,” added Camali.
