PS3 Avatar - Blu-ray Forum

Is there any way to pic your own avatar or are you forced to pick from the horrible list that PSN gives you?

Forced to pick from their small and shoddy list for now.

At the very least they should release an expanded avatar pack.

I think the reason why you can't use a custom graphic is because they would have to monitor for content. Can you imagine a mother's horror when her kid logs on and his friend list has some guy with his "junk" for an avatar?

Yea dude, you're stuck with the originals. There's a way to upload your own, but it will get you banned from the PSN.

hahah true enough! Too bad there isnt a way to have them approved or something. I know at this point it would be a forever task to approve them but....

Kidding aside...

I honestly think that the Avatars are an advertising sell for Sony. I think developers are offered avatar slots for their game characters at a price (who knows if it's significant or not) and it's one of the many ways Sony is financing the free PSN.

I noticed that some new avatars pop up with some games on the horizon sometimes... Was very surprised to not find new MGS4 avatars on there after it's release though... VERY surprised. Hoping they ad some. Seems the ones on there now are all Sony and Ubisoft properties.

I don't see the problem with allowing people to use their own images, providing they limit the hight, width and size.

I was actually looking for MGS4 avatars yesterday on my account!

Look at 'Thegide' 's post, and you'll understand.

With 10 million accounts activated, I doubt Sony has the time to check each and every account members avatar, even if they do decide to do a 'approval pending' system. They've already got enough on their plate.
