Talking Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's Dark Shadows?

A Japanese press schedule published by Warner Bros., which you can see in its entirety at the link, has the Johnny Depp-produced Dark Shadows feature film positioned for a winter 2010 release. That's just overseas, but it gives you a good idea of when the studio might have it ready for us here in the States.

Last month, Sam Sarkar of Depp's Infinitum-Nihil hinted that big announcements were regarding the project were coming soon. He would not confirm or deny that Tim Burton, who's at work on Alice in Wonderland, was going to direct. Depp will most definitely start as Shadows' Barnabas Collins.

I actually watched the re-make of this show, it was interesting, if it only lasted for a season or two.

This is my wifes all time favorite show and she got me adicted to it,it still has a major cult following even after 40 years ,I managed to buy all the original shows on dvd I think there was around 24 volumes and then the pre barnabas era ,around 6 volumes. It took over a year to watch everything, but what a ride, time travel, alternate realities, werewolves, vampires, witches.
I even managed to find the two movie spin offs from the 70's ,can not wait for a new movie.

I bought the first DVD box set last year, call The Beginings or something like that. I am with you what I ride, been buying the box set as they become available.

On the subject, wonder how they can turn this series into a movie? I mean the characters were develop over a long period of time in the series. If I re-call I think the first 5 episodes actualy take place in the first night, 6-12 am that give's an idea of character development, hard to achieve on a movie.

The first movie they did was kind of a summary of the series with some changes of course.Since vampires are the in thing right now,I can see them planing a trilogy or more (hopefully) dealing with the major story lines, but yeah it is going to be hard to do a movie based on a soap opera. They are guaranted to attract all the fans of the show ,but hopefully the story will draw a whole new generation in.

My mom was a huge fan as a teenager and I remember her telling me about when her and my aunt met Barnabis Collins in the late 70's, lol. I was like Mom I have no idea who that is.......the show ended way before I was born, but I do love Burton and Depp so I'm looking forward to this if the rumors end up being true.

I recall the '90s series being pretty good (Ben Cross played Barnabas), but it ended with a huge cliffhanger that would never be resolved.

There was one character that got screwed in both the present and the past.
