anybody know circuit city return policy, serial number question

Anyone know if circuit city checks the serial numbers somehow when returning or scanning it in to the computer when you buy?? I'm asking because I bought an 805 there and the serial number on the back of the receiver does not match the one on the box. I now wonder if I got someones switcharoo or open box or something. I hope this won't be a problem for me returning it because the Audyssey feature won't work, always says "writing error".

i worked at circuit city 3104 for 2 years, and they never checked the serial number on the actual item, not once, not even for wii's or ps3's. the customer service rep just scans the barcodes on the box, same as the warehouse/product flow people

When they scan the box are they actually scanning the serial number into anything or is it just a UPC barcode? I just don't wanna lug the beast in there and run into a hassle trying to get an exchange.

worst case scenario.... just tell them you "discovered" the incorrect serial number while trying to register the product, and accuse THEM of selling you a used unit
