Big surprise -
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multime...202090024.html Honest to God, they just cannot accept the facts and now have to add their own bs and present as fact again... Sony Gives Blu-Ray Discs for Free: Blu-Ray Outsells HD DVD. Blu-Ray Discs Outsell HD DVD by a Factor of Two Category: Multimedia by Anton Shilov [ 02/02/2007 | 09:02 AM ] Sales of movies on Blu-ray discs have surpassed sales of motion pictures on HD DVDs in the USA, a market study by a market tracking agency claims. But that is not a surprise: Sony has bundled some PlayStation 3 game machines with a BD movie and included a voucher for another Blu-ray disc, essentially shipping several hundreds of thousands Blu-ray movies for free. A recent market research report from Nielsen VideoScan claims that the numbers for the week ending January 7th demonstrate that for every 47.14 HD DVD movies sold, there are 100 Blu-ray movies sold, but on the following week, ending January 14th the amount of HD DVDs sold would be 38.36, for every 100 Blu-ray discs sold, PSX Extreme web-site claims. This is not the first time when a research indicates about Blu-ray outpacing HD DVD sales. According to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, a studio that exclusively supports Blu-ray format, Blu-ray discs started to outsell HD DVDs in late December and by early January there were 3.5 BDs sold on every single HD DVD movie. HD DVD manufacturers – primarily Toshiba and Thompson – said they shipped about 175 thousands of HD DVD players in 2006. But while the Blu-ray camp led by Sony Corp. did not indicate how many players were sold, it is known that Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. shipped one million PlayStation 3 gaming machines in late-2006 – early-2007. Many of the PlayStation 3 game consoles included Talladega Nights movie on Blu-ray and/or a voucher to purchase a Blu-ray movie for free, meaning that there were several hundred of thousands of Blu-ray movies purchased for free during the period. Blu-ray disc fiercely competes with HD DVD format to replace conventional DVD in future. While Blu-ray offers larger storage space for content, HD DVD drives and discs are easier and cheaper to produce. Then explain how in EVERY single chart, for every retailer BD titles are OUTSELLING HD-DUD?! Y'know? With real, cash money... NOT freebies? I have emailed this dork to this effect, and I suggest if you have 15 seconds to spare, you do too. Fight the bs! Last edited by Jack Torrance; 02-04-2007 at 12:27 AM. |

Only the initial 400,000 PS3's had Talladega Nights. They then came with a coupon book for 10$ off 1 Blu-ray movie from each studio. Did the author of this piece do even basic rtesearch. He could have called almost a million people in America and they'd have told him this.

Of course they "forgot" that. They forget that all those add-ons came with a free KK, too.
Can't have facts poison a good fume-fest. ![]() Can any of those coupons be used for online purchases? And how do those free TDN affect Amazon.com trends? Gary Last edited by dialog_gvf; 02-04-2007 at 03:45 AM. |

wouldnt be suprised if the sales are at least equal on both sides... but of course hd dvd hasent had any movies really released lately while bd has had a few of their "big name" movies released...
but then again anything that sounds logical for hd dvd is a bad thing for the bd fanboys, this format war wont end for a long while so instead of whining about what the other says maybe we concentrate on the material supplied and enjoy full HD? |

Here's an example of what happens when people lap up this Kool Aid without much, if any, actual firsthand experience to back it up.
The following was a response sent to me after I posted on another forum the past few days' worth of links about BD outselling HD-DVD and the rest of the big news items you all have seen around here. Brace yourselves. Reading this will want to make you get violent. Background: This person has seen some HD-DVD and "a few hours in passing at a friend's house" ![]() Quote:
And yes, he cites AVS and HTF as his primary sources of information, as if that's any surprise. This person claims to be impartial, btw. ![]() He's written this same nonsense so many times I just ignore him when he does. |

Better watch that language, chief.
![]() No, that's pretty harsh and I'll explain why: He's a sheep who simply believes everything he's read on those forums because some of the sources of misinformation are well written and seem to know what they're talking about to someone who really doesn't. He's in way over his head. That quote is from a long time, friendly acquaintance of mine who has never really early adopted anything before. Usually he's a lot more fair, objective, and thorough about things, but not when it comes to this. Why? Because he bought into HD-DVD himself so of course he wants it to win simply because of that and nothing else. He's an example of why it's so irresponsible and I hate to use the term "dangerous" for this kind of subject matter but: This person is what it looks like when you take the lies, FUD, and misinformation and accept it as fact. This is why it's important, without getting crazy, to try and keep the facts and truth out there, because there's "innocent bystanders" who can get grazed, like this guy. All of a sudden he becomes a drone. This is a guy who thought he hit the big time buying a $100 DVD player last year, so getting into HD-DVD was like time traveling to the future or something. This was a super big deal to him. It's really kind of sad. It's Ijustboughtcrapitis all the way. I think that's really all that's at play for a lot of these stubborn "Hd-DVD only" people you see around on some of the forums, outside of the obvious crazed zealots. |

I used to be like that at one point in the not so distant past, but then I grew out of it and became more objective and more patient, and waaaay more cynical. That is what this guy needs, a good bit of cynicism towards practically everything (there are obvious exceptions) in life. Especially when the (mis)info comes from a corporation. These guys (HD DVD supporters) don't get it, corporations care about one thing, and one thing only, getting our money by giving us as little as possible in return, they don't care about which films you want to see, they want your money and if telling a few untruths (like saying that they will release Spielberg classics) gets them your money, then they will lie, steal and cheat. Sony are a great example of this (XCP/Atrac) but if you don't use their stuff you are severely handicapped when it comes to high-end CEs, MS are worse but fortunately I have no use for them thanks to Ubuntu, Open Office and WINE. Anyway that is my ranting done for the day ![]() |

It's very disappointing. I really try to avoid the subject with this person for the most part, but this was an exception the other day because he was going about how HD-DVD had pretty much already won the format war and I just couldn't stand it any longer. Quote:
I wonder if he even knows that some of those people are MS and Toshiba employees, with obvious agendas? He probably doesn't even care. And there are others like him. He's just a random, snapshot example. I'm sure most of our forumers know at least one person like this. Quote:
