Newbie question about BD on PS3

Hello fellow enthusiast. I have a quick question. I recently saw a commercial for a movie in DVD and BD, but at the end it says " plays also on PS3." I thought that all BD plays on the PS 3. Is it true that not all BD cannot play on the PS 3 console?

The PS3 has a Blu-Ray drive, Blu-Ray discs can be played on any Blu-Ray player. Any BD can work on the PS3.

Many people were not aware that the PS3 could play BDs in the earlier days, so they do it to raise awareness among PS3 owners.

I cant even see how this is possible. Every PS3 and PS3 game have Blu-Ray labeld on them. Plus there's Blu-Ray options in the settings section of the XMB.

Well, apparently it was possible. Old surveys showed something like 50% of PS3 owners were unaware that th ePS3 would play BDs.

I remember when I got the original Xbox the first week it came out, and I didn't even know it could play DVDs until like two years after I got it lol.

I feel a bit annoyed at all the "Plays on PS3" stickers on the BD cases, because for some reason it makes me think it implies it's made for PS3, and it's more entertainment for gamers when not gaming, than it is for people who just like movies. Yet, somehow, I live.

Sigh. That survey actually said "50% of next gen console owners" were unaware that the PS3 could play Blu-Rays.

Considering that at the time of the survey, the PS3 only had a market share of like 15%, it's entirely possible that 100% of PS3 owners knew about the Blu-Ray, but 58.9% of Wii and 360 owners did not. Not likely, but possible.

Having said all of that I still wouldn't be surprised if surveys like that are the reason for the stickers.

Hey, in the Clone Wars, I even had to explain to people that the PS3 did play their DVDs. Food was everywhere. So people being exposed to food overdoses ended up believing that A: the PS3 didn't play DVDs, B: that the PS3 didn't play Bu-ray discs, only games, and C: That ingesting Vitamin A in excess was good for you.
