Default need help

I just hooked up a Comcast HD Box to my TV, and my Standard Definition stations have the bars on the sides. The HD channels fill the screen. It is hooked into an HDMI port on the TV, and Comcast is putting out a 1080i signal. I can stretch the screen for SD channels, but I lose a little bit of the picture. Not to mention it becomes a slight inconvenience when trying to flip between SD and HD channels.

I've been trying to figure out how to make it where both SD and HD fill the screen, or if there are any bars I don't mind bars across the bottom of the HD channels. The bars on the side of the SD channels are not small, they shrink to about half the screen. Is there any way to accomplish what I'm trying to do, or do I just have to deal with the minor inconvenience. Thanks in advance for anybody willing to help out.

Tim

I think you're stuck flipping between stretched and non stretched. There's no way for you to reformat the incoming signal to accomplish what you want.

that's what it seems like, i could have sworn there was a pass through function that could do what i needed. but i went through all the menus on both the tv and the receiver and came up empty.

Your SD channels are broadcast in a 4x3 ratio, whereas most of the HD channels are 16x9. So yes, you'll have to stretch them all over and whatnot to have them fill the screen.

I stopped watching SD channels within a month of getting DirecTV HD. And I stopped watching DVDs on my plasma TV about 20 minutes into the first movie that I played on it!

If I could get $5 each for my DVDs, I'd get rid of 'em all!
