Default Price of video games

My dad is always commenting on how expesive video games are, although I admit there pricey. I bought the LE of Metal Gear 4 it was $ 90, Blu Ray movies are $ 30 dollars a piece on average.

Movies are about 2hrs long
I have played MGS4 for about 15 hrs so even buying LE
so by that logic I have got about $ 450 on MGS4

A lot of work goes into making a game. When you think of all the hours you get playing a game , you definitely get your money's worth

60$ is too steep. Meanwhile PC games are 50$, piratable, and often drop to 40$ quickly. Since console market is locked in I really think most games should be 50$ and smaller releases like Iron Man, Lego Jones, and Hulk should be 40$.

I don't want to be TOO captain obvious here, but if $60 is killing you comparable to the $50 and then $40 you'll pay for a PC game.... Why are you bothering with a console?

If you want to, you can wait until they drop to the $39.99 and eventual $29.99 they'll go to in a year or so when they hit the bargain bins.

BTW, your avatar is freakin peach! Do you have the glow?

Back in the days of the SNES and N64 and such, video games were commonly $70. This was before "special editions" were even in a gamer's vocabulary.

Most games I pick up now are $60, and this is over 10 years later! Everything else has gone up from inflation.

I consider games pretty cheap, given the amount of entertainment you get out of them. You said it... a 2-hour movie will cost you $25-30. A 60-hour game will cost you about double that.

Per hour, games are about 15-times less expensive.

As for $60 being too expensive, what would that extra $10 really save you? Maybe a trip to mcdonalds? $60 is barely a tank of gas these days... perhaps it's time to consider a change in employment?

I don't think those titles were intended to be "small" releases. They may not have had GTA4's budget to produce, but they did what they could to be competetive.

Bad games still cost a lot of money because it still takes a lot of work to make them.

This is why we now have all of those casual-gamer titles on PSN for $10. Cheap to make, don't require a lot of time to play/beat, can be made with very small development teams.

$60 for a video game is something I'll never pay. It's simply too much for me.

I kind of regret how many quarters I spent on Donkey Kong way back when but I bet it was much less then $60.

I bought some PS3 games new on Ebay recently for $6. (Plus another $6 for shipping but that's ok... shipping does cost something too.)(NHL2k7 and All Pro Football both of which I actually love to play.)

I also bought MotorStorm used for $20 and I think that's about as high as I can really go for games.

I realize they cost a lot to make and they represent a certain "value" but I guess I'm old fashioned with how much I think they should cost.

As they said on Seinfeld, "Not that there's anything wrong with that!"

I'm not a fan of paying $60 for a game either, and in fact I think I've done it maybe once in recent memory (for UT3, hoping I could PM within the 30 days but I couldn't). However, there are probably going to be some exceptions coming up *cough* FFXIII *cough* where I am willing to bend my frugal rules!

For me $50-$60 for a game is way to expensive, the most I would pay is $30, but I rather just rent the game when it first comes out, and get it later on for alot less. But that is just me, im cheap that way. Like recently I bought Virtual Tennis 3 for $10 brand new from Kmart, I also picked up Madden 07 for $5. For me virtual tennis for $10 is a steal, but that is just me.

That's pretty much how I buy games now. There are a few game that I'll pay $60 for, but normally I'll wait for the price to drop. I don't care if I can't play the game right way, it's going to be new to me once I do play it.

I picked up Uncharted for $39.99 on Amazon, when it was "Deal of the Day"
Target usually has some older games on clearance. I just bought Heavenly Sword at Target for $29.98.

I wish they would be that much, but I doubt it.

I've said this before though, about the prices of games. They're 60 now, were 50 and 40 the last two generations. So they're gonna be 10 the next generation? I'll pass if they do get that high.

I remember Atari 2600 games were 50.00, so it could be worse.

I don't know if I'm too old or a lot of you guys are just to young to remember games for SNES (not ROMS downloaded) or NEO GEO. Games loaded on ram had no set price point. One game could be $35 and another could be $70-$80. I remember when FFIII came out in the U.S. that game was $65. I am glad to pay $50-$60 now. Some NEO GEO games are still like $185 and the system is long dead. The new trick to get you to pay more is to add attachments..balance boards and plastic guitars haha

Most games aren't worth the price they're charging.

We Europeans are soooo screwed about this.

We pay regular games 69,99€ (that's $108.32) while you guys pay them $60 (38.77€).

Movies ? A movie is up to $30 you say ? We buy a bluray for an average of USD40-45

I often have to buy my PS3 games imported on Ebay or so. Same goes for almost everything else (electronics, etc).

You guys are lucky :/ Or it's rather "Taxes SUCK !"

anybody else fined a ton of value from those $4.99-$9.99 PSN games.

I don't know how many hours I have spent on SSHD, but its been a ton of fun and given me a ton of gameplay.

Same with Everyday Shooter and High Velocity Bowling.

People like to rag on Go! Sports Ski, but its only $2.99 and its got 3 different modes with 2 different slopes and online rankings. Yeah, its not game of the year, but its a good value.
