Default Need help

I need help finding a reciever that will do all the audio's that bluray is putting out. Dolby TrueHD,DTS HD 5.1, PCM 5.1 uncompressed, 5.1 uncompressed, 7.1 pcm audio. Im using the PS3 as my bluray player and don't plan on getting a stand alone player anytime soon.

Im using samsung speakers which are little samsungs from my previous souround sound system and they are 3 ohms independece. Plan on getting different speakers in the future but not too soon. What would you guys recomend? I really get confused with all this audio stuff, it makes my head spin lol. So im just asking straight out.

I know alot of people here are using onkyo recievers. I saw a sony STRDG720 at best buy for $299. Says it does 7.1, 3 hdmi inputs and 1 out, 8 ohms, supports 8 ch linear pcm, and 24p True cinema (whatevert that means) lol It says nothing about True hd or DTS HD though is it capable of those two? Is that a reputable reciever? I really don't have the funds to spend $600-1000. Is there any thing in the $300 to $400 ish price range that can do the job done? Thanks

If it handles LPCM it'll work fine with DTS MA and TrueHD, as long as you have a player that has internal decoding, which the PS3 does. If you ever upgrade your player, you would have to replace the PS3 with another player that decodes TrueHD and DTS MA.

Whats DTS MA? Is that the same as DTS HD? So the I figure the speakers are too much. Whats the average speaker you would want? 4 ohm indepence? So basically if the reciever is stamped DTS HD and Dolby HD on it that means that the reciever will decode it if the player does'nt? and the receiver that im looking into will support it but the Bluray player has to decode it?

Dts as pulled a fast one on consumers...

Dts-HD can be one of two things...

Dts-HD High Resolution
Dts-HD Master

Dts-HD Master is the better of the two.

Here is something you may want to look into, yes it is a full band width receiver, and you can buy it on cdw or techdepot around the price you want, although the delivery is slow. It does DTS-HD MA, DDTrue HD, and Uncompressed Audio (aka. LPCM) it is a 7.1 receiver and can process 5.1 or 6.1 if you want, this is what I plan on purchasing.

Sony's STR-DG920 delivers the full high-def experience to your home theater system. You'll get crisp, detailed images and room-rocking multichannel sound for all your entertainment options — from movies and TV shows to music and video games. It even includes built-in decoding for Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD™ Master Audio — two high-resolution surround sound formats available with some newer Blu-ray players and discs. You also get digital video upconversion and HDMI switching to keep your sources looking their best, and make system hookup easier.

Streamlined video connections and maximum picture quality
Four 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs let you connect your high-definition video components and switch easily between them, while maintaining pristine digital purity for the picture and sound. Analog-to-HDMI conversion allows you to send all of your older video sources to an HDMI-capable TV using a single digital cable. Plus, sophisticated digital video upconversion can upgrade any non-HD video source to an HDMI digital signal with resolution up to 1080p, to more closely match the capabilities of your HDTV.

Simplified system operation
This future-ready receiver's HDMI connections provide simplified one-touch operation with compatible Sony A/V components. Just press play on the remote, and watch as the receiver, television, and disc player all automatically power up and switch to the appropriate settings.

Easy and accurate setup
Sony's auto calibration makes home theater setup quick, simple, and accurate. Just plug in the included microphone, place it in your favorite seat, and the 'DG920 automatically adjusts the volume and delay settings for each speaker in your system. The result is precise, well-balanced home theater sound, custom-tailored for your specific room and speakers.

More digital entertainment options
The STR-DG920's "digital media port" lets you play music stored on your iPod® or PC when you connect additional Sony accessories. An optional PC adapter allows you to send tunes to the receiver through your home's wired or Wi-Fi® computer network. If you're a fan of XM Radio, you'll really appreciate how easily you can add it to the 'DG920. Just connect an optional XM Mini-Tuner package package and an XM subscription to enjoy instant access to your favorite XM satellite radio channels. This receiver also tunes in XM HD Surround channels, which deliver music in full surround sound. Plus you can use Sony's special digital processing mode to enhance the sound of your MP3s and other compressed music files.

Double-check the specs on your speakers....3 ohm speakers are uncommon.....I have Thiel CS1.6 speakers which are rated 4 ohm minimum and Thiels are known to require lots of good power.

If your speakers are the typical 6 to 8 ohm......they will be very easy to drive with most receivers out there.

As mentioned above, the PS3 decodes the latest codecs internally and will transmit via HDMI to the receiver as PCM.

The Sony mentioned above would more than likely be a good candidate for you.
