Please don't give me all that "you can't tell yet" and "HDVD roxasr". When Blu Ray wins, what will microsoft do with the 360? Will they ask Sony to allow them to use blu ray(but them out) or will they keep using HD-DVD or screw it all together and use DVD until next gen. If they were to pay Sony for BD, I hope Sony gets Bungie, Rare or whatever for free so more exclusives for PS3. I hope Sony wouldn't be brainless enough to just take money, They should take exclusive titles away! I personally want games.

I honestly believe that HD-DVD will be around for awhile. Maybe not as a home theater/movie format, but for storage. It will see its use in the XBox.

MS isn't using HD-DVD for anything gaming related and never will. HD-DVD is a non issue as far as gaming is concerned. The typical life cycle of these game consoles, and most certainly the 360, is about 4-5 years. MS will have to bring out a new unit within that period of time to catch up hardware wise to the behemoth that the PS3 is hardware wise now. |

I'm of the mindset that MS doesnt care about HD DVD at all. They seem to be fine with regular DVD for their games. I also believe the rumor that MS only supported HD only to hurt Bluray, simply becuase they want digital downloads to 'win the war'.

I only hope that next gen they put the new interface that will replace HDMI (come on, you knew that would happen!) so that they are not left behind yet again... |

While I believe that MS see a downloadable future and have only bothered with HD-DVD as a tool against Sony, I also believe their vision is ahead of its time.
There is simply no way the masses are about to ditch physical discs in favour of temporary downloads that are not even of the same quality. Ok, you might rent something as a download, but you're not going to keep it that way, if you really like; you'll go and buy it. And given the tiny amount of space on the 360's hard drive, where do MS expect people to put this content? Oh right, to enjoy the latest MS vision they have to put their hands in their pockets again to get a larger hard drive. Nah, it's not going to happen. For the next few years, certainly the lifespan of these consoles, disc based games and movies will be the norm. Sony themselves have already hinted that the next PlayStation may not use physical media, but they are looking a good 7 years ahead. MS seem to think that because they want you to do something, that you will. Sorry, Bill, it doesn't work like that. In the UK and probably most of Europe most broadband users are on monthly capped services. Personally, downloading a film via an Xbox360 would eat up over half my bandwidth! |

By that time the cable and satellite companies will have cornered the market and people will have boxes for PPV or VOD with big cheap hard drives that the price is included with the cable/sat service. IPTV is interesting, but it only offers a more difficult and expensive way to do what is already being done. b2b |

MS have a vested interest in IPtv, they NEED to keep the PC alive and well, if people stop buying PC's and use other generic set top boxes to access material online then their bread and butter income is at risk.
MS are so transparent, all this Vista Live games stuff that will tie in with the 360, it's all pointless but it keeps MS in the frame. It seems utterly stupid to me that I should have to leave my PC on all the time just so I can stream content from it (well, the stuff MS will let me stream) to an Xbox360 then onto my tv. What makes perfect sense is to have a box plugged into my tv and surround system that has all the content stored directly on it, photo's, music, vids, etc. That's what the PS3 offers, but MS can't make the 360 a standalone device, all they can do is try to convince people that you should have a Vista PC AND a 360! Yeah, right, two devices instead of one... But if they are now saying that all Vista games must support the 360 pad and will be released on both formats, then why do you need a 360 at all? My view on IPtv is that it will remain niche for many years to come, the basic tv channels and stations have little to fear from the internet. What I do see being potentially useful is a "reverse PVR". You can use a PVR to record upcoming programmes, but suppose you miss something, you then use the same device to look back over the previous weeks programmes and set your box to download it overnight (or something), then when you check your library of programmes, there it is ready to watch and once viewed it deletes itself. |

The problem with PC gaming is that it is a thing of the past from my point of view, people everyday wants more slim, integrated and portable PCs and the 3D cards are running against this, Microsoft vision about the future of PC gamins is wrong, it is good for consoles but in a platform where the most sold games are things like Sims 2, World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2 Microsoft gaming policy is wrong. Things have changed into the PC platform. Quote:
Of course their Media Center Extender (aka Xbox 360) canīt support HD-DVD out of the box, this is why they are providing an HD-DVD player for the console. Quote:
