Default 12 Monkeys (1995) (Remastered)

http://www.diabolikdvd.com/product/t...ow-us-blu-ray/

Quote:
THE FUTURE IS HISTORY

Following the commercial and critical success of The Fisher King, Terry Gilliam next feature would turn toscience fiction and a screenplay by Janet and David Peoples (Blade Runner, Unforgiven) inspired by Chris Marker’s classic short film La Jetée.

In 1996, a deadly virus is unleashed by a group calling themselves the Army of the Twelve Monkeys, destroying much of the world’s population and forcing survivors underground. In 2035, prisoner James Cole (Bruce Willis,Die Hard) is chosen to go back in time and help scientists in their search for a cure.

Featuring an Oscar-nominated turn by Brad Pitt (Fight Club) as mental patient Jeffrey Goines, Twelve Monkeys would become Gilliam’s most successful film and is now widely regarded as a sci-fi classic. Arrow Films are proud to present the film in a stunning new restoration.

I was so close to buying the older BLU two weeks ago! I pulled up the review and even recall thinking the transfer really could be much better... but never expected a new scan. I figured it would be something Criterion would have tried in a few years.

Can't wait

Since Criterion had already done several Terry Gilliam films, and seems to work with Universal frequently, I never bought the other edition because I viewed a Criterion as 100% inevitable. As the years went on I even emailed them a couple times (with no response). I too was getting frustrated, but I'd never pay for the existing edition at this point. Similar situation to those other ones I mentioned. They are just bottom tier blu-rays and at this point in the format if I was going to "own" those films I wouldn't even want the half-assed quality discs as clutter, I'd have sprung for digital editions (and actually I've seen all these films semi-recently, so I must have caught them on various streaming options or on-demand)

Still, I'm quite looking forward to getting a proper edition of this with 4K remaster.

Good, it deserves it. Glad to see that films Universal dumped on the market with inferior transfers are getting double dips with better transfers. Maybe there's hope for Weird Science!!!!

That'll make a third copy of one of my all-time favorites. Happy to triple dip.

FINALLY!!!

Lately there's been a flood of announcements on some of my "boycotted because they were so bad on blu-ray" releases.

Predator UHD.
American Psycho UHD...

Now this one. I thought for sure Criterion would take it because they've licensed a bunch from Universal, and also have a bunch of Terry Gilliam films. But no complaints, I'm thrilled at an Arrow edition just the same. Love this film.

Definitely in! Funnily I had just watched Arrow's release of "Time Bandits" the other day.

I hope they include La Jetee - it’s super creepy and very effective.

Is this available separately somewhere?

Very stoked about 12 Monkeys. It's a phenomenal modern sci-fi classic. So enjoyable

This is one of those instances where I'm not even overly fond of the movie but the release is so attractive I must just pull the trigger.

New scan is great, but I’m a bit disappointed that it doesn’t look like there will be many new extras.

I'm not usually happy about re-release announcements, but this one definitely needed some better attention. I'm interested for sure.
