Default HD GURU Reviews 2008 Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro

Click here to check out HD GURU's critique of the new Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro plasma HDTV (in short: the best plasma on the market, albeit very expensive at that).

I can think of any reviewer that doesn't rate the Pio Kuros as the best TVs bar none.

More to the point, Hometheatermag recently did a very good review where the Kuro beat allcomers in a "blind" comparison.

HOWEVER, all the others were 1080p versions, but the Kuro was the 768p model, and it still won, even without being significantly more expensive.

In all fairness, the KURO didn't receive ALL the #1 votes, some went to the Viera. Overall the gave it to the KURO but they said it was pretty much neck and neck and both were easily ahead of all the other technologies reviewed.

It's a sad fact of life, but the best is nearly always expensive.

Very interesting article though, as I'm watching these two manufactures' carefully. I plan to buy a new TV in the next, oh, 6 months or so, and the 60" Pioneer and 65" Panasonic are at the top of my list (I wish Pioneer made TVs bigger than 60", though! 65" to 70" would be ideal for me.).

That's surprising to read how well the -850U stacks up against the ELITE 9G.
I would have thought the KURO would handily win, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

To me that makes a good review for the Panasonic.. as well as the Pioneer.. got to ask yourself if the extra 1500 is worth the difference...

The 850 is pretty good as well. I haven't seen the new pioneer yet altho I am sure it really is Kuro. From what I understand... comparing previous generation to their super-slim concept TV to come... the black levels are in-between the two. Is it worth $1500? Not to me. I really like my Viera and it's a 750. I'll wait for the next generation to come.
