Default Star Wars - A Blu-ray.com Campaign?

With these forums about to pass 3200 members, and growing at a ferocious clip, it strikes me that the accumulated mass it starting to become extremely powerful for the future of Blu-ray. Perhaps we should see if we can do something with our numbers?

2007 is the 30th anniversary of the May 1977 release of the original Star Wars. The greatest movie franchise in history. And the killer app for any format if Lucas could be persuaded to release it this early in its life.

So, should we as the membership try to encourage Lucas to release on Blu-ray this year?

Simple yes or no poll. But, please post your ideas of what we can do if you think it is a good idea.

Gary

Yes.

Ideas:

Anything that makes noise and is consistent. Phones. Emails. Letters. Raising hell on other forums.

All of the above combined.

I voted "Yes".

Lucas likes to do things when he's "good and ready", so this is going to be quite a challenge, but I'm up for it.

Rick McAllum seems to be a little more willing to please the fans though.

My first idea:

Invite Bill Hunt on here (perhaps as a special/honourary insider - good idea in general).

Ask him to mention the campaign when it is established.

Very true. But, I still have the $200 Definitive Star Wars CAV Laserdisc box set with the hardcover book that pretty much introduced the idea of commentaries and bonus features. They made maybe 10,000 units. So at some point, Lucas cared about delivering a special gift to the home video fans.

The PS/3 sales would probably guarantee 500,000 worldwide for a BD!

That's actually a great idea. Bill rocks! He's great with this kind of stuff. I remember he mentioned a blurb on his site a while back for the "Han Shoots First" campaign.

Star Wars? What's that? Never heard of it. Is it something like Star Trek?

I think this is the last thing on G.L.'s list. He's worrying about his up and coming TV series, and the newest Indiana Jones movie. One way to get his attention is if this format was supported by the entire 501st Legion of Stormtroopers. (www.501st.com) It's the worldwide costuming club that "The maker" put in Revenge of the Sith (Blue Striped Clone Trooper - escorted by Anakin into the Jedi Temple) and what the Battlefront 2 story line was all about. They also marched in the Rose Parade that he was the Grand Marshall of recently. Uh-oh, I think I just gave away my inner Geekdom!!

Oh, and I voted yes ............ of course.

Sure, why not buy another copy of the Star Wars Trilogy. This will be what? 5? George Lucas is mastermind on making money.

I would favor trying to convince Universal to go Blu-Ray.

Star Wars is a movie that is fond in the memories of some. My friend in fact had Star Wars sheets. I guess you either dream Star Wars or you don't. I am in the latter category. I love reading sci-fi so I should love it but I don't. Maybe it was all that commercialization or something, beats me.

Never discount luck... George more or less had a nervous breakdown and the whole project (the first movie) was finished up by some very talented people who were artists in movie editing, story pacing and the power of a superb movie score.

I think the BD recorder sales in Japan coupled with the failure of the Xbox 360 there have now made this a moot point. Universal can't abandon Japan, and that means releasing on BD there, which effectively means releasing on BD here (imports). I believe this is why Universal went quiet. They are re-evaluating their HD disc plans in light of the war already being over in Japan.

So, now that Blu-ray has won (), we can look to getting the titles we want on Blu-ray.

Ideas anyone?!

I agree, there was something about it that just didn't "click" for me, and I breathe sci-fi, ever since I could first read. Probably all the comic books...

I never have liked a lot of hype, that could be it, too. But I loooove blu-ray:

Default Hmmmm let me think...

My avatar is Yoda, my username is Jedisinclair (as in Jedi Sinclair). I LOVE the Star Wars movies. I wasn't real crazy about Hayden Christensen as Anakin... BUT, he redeemed himself with the battle with Obi-Wan. They practiced that over and over because they both knew the significance that battle held.

Anyway, HELL YEAH, let's get SW on Blu-ray. That would be a box set I would love to own.

Inviting Bill Hunt is a great idea. I don't always agree with what he says but the amount of abuse he takes on AVS is rediculous! We all know he has contacts at Lucas Film.

Well there's no doubt that a signature would be great, but with online you can't really do this.

I think getting Digital Bits involved as soon as possible would be a great idea. They probably have a way we can allow Lucas to see the support.

Can't the mods have a blanket email sent out to all registered members when a poll or something is done to have them all come and sign it or vote for it.

Bump.

So, seems we have some overwhelming support for the idea of trying to convince Lucas to allow Fox to begin releasing the Star Wars series on Blu-ray.

Any idea of a next step?

Looking ahead, Verrecchia said he expected Star Wars to continue to be a strong performer with Lucas planning a video release for this year's 30th anniversary, a Star Wars animated TV show next year and a live-action Star Wars TV show in 2009.

"He and his studio have a lot going on over the next several years to support the franchise," Verrecchia said.

Video? Would that be a clue? Hmm... well I can always hope!
