Stanley Kubrick has said that the movie is open to personal interpretation.

Which are some of the more accepted interpretations of the movie and what are some of the more personal thoughts? Now remember, the only wrong answer here would be "2001 sucks".

On a slightly different track, I feel the only things which date the movie are the cheezy monkey suits, stewardess outfits, and the space port furniture to a lesser degree. Heck, I think $1.70 for a Picture Phone call is downright decent! Can you imagine the audience response to that in 1968?
