Default Home two years away? (no)

God I hate quoting Kotaku. They're a news outlet that only reports what other people are reporting. Anyway: http://kotaku.com/5025942/tretton-ex...g-road-to-home

"I would rather ship it two years from now and have it populated by a lot of neat stuff and be competitive than open something that is a ghost town," he said.

Uhhhh....... when something is two years away (HI KILLZONE 2 AT E3 2006), it stops being a selling point for the system. Second Life code must be very different to reverse engineer. I guess I'll eagerly await the PS4.

You'll notice that he doesn't say that it's going to be released in 2 years.

He says they'd rather wait two years than open it without content.

As far as we know, the Novembre 2008 Beta opening (which is actually probably going to be the only real launch of Home) is the one.

The 'open beta' is still locked for '08... but.... yeah...

HOME is essentially vaporware.

How is it so? When you clearly said that it'll be out this Nov.

I said 'open beta' was still planned for '08.

Beta is not a 'release' officially and basically means anything can change, be canceled/scrapped, or any other assortment of oddities.

Honestly, they should have just ported over TheSims and renamed it HOME and called it done then moved on to something more important.

Edit: There is no denying the complete stupidity of a CEO saying something like this in a public forum though. I mean... Wow. This guy is a PR disaster.

Beta will always be what HOME is.

If HOME can be a complete product, then it's the SIM. But Home isn't that.

HOME has nothing to do with the lack of games. Blame the devs.

Proteus you need to chill, seriously. We all know you were disapointed with FFXIII, but take a step back.
Vaporware relates to something that will never release.
Home is already in Closed Beta and we have a window for Open Beta, which will probably be the actual release.

Duke Nukem Forever is vaporware...

At least we've seen video and reviews of the current Home Beta.

Vaporware? C'mon, we all know that Home is very real. If it was really Vaporware, it would be like GT4 Portable. It would be just nothing.

Yes, and he could have been stating his thoughts from back at the time it got delayed.

If I remember correctly, I think Home was supposed to come out last fall, then got delayed until the spring, and delayed again, and a thousand more times, and now the beta should be in November, or something. That means the full non-beta version might be another 6 months after that, so say May 2009.

Originally Sept/Oct 2007, now May 2009, give or take a few months, and presto, 2 years.

Maybe that's what he meant.

Home, should of been with playstation at launch, just a basic concept that could of been upgraded through time, then all games would support it and everyone would be familiar with it.
