Default Amazon living high on the Hog with record 2nd Quarter Profits

Quote:
The economy may be slow, but Amazon.com is living high, posting second quarter profits of $158 million, up from just under $80 million during the same period last year.
So much for the theories that the free shipping was hurting them, If anything its driving sales!!

They denote an increased spending in DVD/blu-ray by 31% compared to the same period last year(Alot of that has to do with the increased title availability and titles that weren't around last year, Welcome Paramount and Universal)

Quote:
The company’s revenue for the three-month period ending June 30 was $4.06 billion, with sales of DVD, Blu-ray Disc, CDs and other media increasing 31%, to $2.41 billion, compared to $1.83 billion during the same period in 2007.
Good News for us blu-ray fans as Amazon will see that as an expanded growth area and focus sales to further drive sales

I have to agree. The couple of times I needed to make a return it was NEVER an issue. Unlike some unrelated companies I have dealt with who practically accuse me of wrong doing.

While no company is perfect, Amazon knows how to treat customers. I hope that this embarrasment of riches doesn't cause them to slack off. My buying habits can just as easily slack off.

well if they are giving a 7.50 credit for something that wasnt advertised on their product description then they are doing a good job. I looked at the Mummy and Mummy returns and I didnt see the 7.50 advertised. LMK if I missed it somehwere

Amazon is slowly taking over the retail sector on the internet. Its growth as a company reminds me greatly of Wal-mart's rise to be the world's biggest retailer. Amazon's customer service and ease of use is what separates it from the other internet retailers. Definitely the best place to buy Blu-rays from, especially with Prime shipping.

I'm lazy so I'll just ask rather than look it up. Even though it would probably take less time. Anyways, what is their overall earnings, as in the net profit/loss since their incorporation? They operated in the red (intentionally) for years. For the traffic they do, $158 mill doesn't seem like a lot.

Well said. Amazon's selection, prices, and customer service definitely puts them ahead of the game.

It was advertised up until a week before the release. The product read as "The Mummy (1999) (free movie ticket) (ws dub sub)" That's how it shows up on my order when I pre-ordered it 6 weeks ago.

But on topic, good for them, any issue I have ever had is always quickly resolved.
