Awesome. Why did it take them so long to do a review though?

Something tells me that if a future patch enables the scaler, the score will go up further.

I did a write-up on the PS3 in our company newsletter. It goes out to about 450 dealers and manufacturers throughout the world. If anyone wants a copy of that bugger, just e-mail me at dave@evolutionaudiovideo.com

You can see I've already commented on this several times. A lot of people have noticed already.

Summary: Despite this, I need to start seeing BD reviews and some other things to make me stop perceiving an obvious HD-DVD bias or I will be cancelling my subscription.

At least PS3 received a good rating and review in Home theater magazine. They were waiting for a quality BLU-RAY player to come to market before reviewing BLU-RAY titles since if they used the Samsung with old firmware the movies would have had a poor review. The March 2007 issue has 3 pages of BLU-RAY advertisements and 3 pages of HD-DVD advertisements.

This is a lame excuse that ran out of gas several months ago. The Sammy got its firmware a while back and then Panasonic came out with their player. Right then and there the excuse dies. It becomes even more ridiculous when the Elite came out and the Sony standalone player in conjunction with the PS3.

Bottom line: No later than November should they have gone without reviewing BD discs. Certainly into 2007 it's ludicrous and has no legs to stand on whatsoever.

*after anally doublechecking with deliberate intent*

There's a Sony BD player ad followed by a Pioneer Elite BD ad near the beginning of the magazine and several pages after that are the three pages of HD-DVD ads.

Where and what was the third BD ad? *shrugs*

Anyways, I'll just go ahead and agree with you on this.

There's still no excuse for them still not reviewing BD discs whatsoever and there hasn't been a good excuse since November at the latest.

I said number of pages are the same for HD-DVD and BLU-RAY. Sony’s advertisement takes up two pages and Pioneers one page. Then you have 3 pages of HD-DVD. I don’t see the magazine banning BLU-RAY advertisements but allowing both camps to have equal pages in the March issue. I do agree that we need to start seeing BLU-RAY reviews now that PS3 is out and Sony and Pioneer players are available. You would think they could have had a review in the Jan issue. Next month if they have no BLU-RAY movie reviews then perhaps several people on this board including me should email them and complain. My favorite magazines to read are Widescreen Review and Perfect Vision. Widescreen review does not get involved in politics and will give a product a good or bad review regardless. Widescreen Review has one of the best movie reviews. I have been reading Widescreen Reviews since the early 90’s in the days of the Laserdisc reviews. Widescreen Review compares HD-DVD picture quality to BLU-RAY when the titles are exactly the same. Sometimes HD-DVD titles have better picture quality then BLU-RAY and other times BLU-RAY has better picture and sound the HD-DVD. Sometimes both formats look exactly the same. With new movies coming out on BLU-RAY that uses 50GB discs and MPEG-4 in theory the BLU-RAY format should start looking and sounding better then HD-DVD.

For those that are interested visit the following website for detailed reviews on the movies picture and sound quality for both BLU-RAY and HD-DVD.

Default FEB issue bias goes to BLU-RAY

The Feb 2007 issue of Home Theater magazine only has one advertisement from the HD-DVD camp and two advertisements from the BLU-RAY camp. Total number of pages for HD-DVD is 1 page and BLU-RAY pages is a total of 5 pages. Sony’s BLU-RAY advertisement in the Feb issue takes up 4 pages and Pioneers one page. So in the February 2007 issue it appears the bias is toward BLU-RAY. The HD-DVD camp needs to start advertising more this year since they are losing the format war.

And Panasonic. And the PS3.

The Panasonic is an excellent player and it was out when? September? October?

I will indeed send in a complaint if the next issue "April 07" comes and goes without BD reviews.

This is already into being ludicrous. No excuses.

Yeah, I think I tend to favor WSR the most as well. They're not without their biases, but at least the whole thing is handled a lot better and at least when they were reviewing BD in the early months and giving medicore scores left and right (excessively at times) they always had the true disclaimer of: "We're using the Samsung player pre firmware so there's a NR and hardware issue that may explain what we're seeing in the PQ" or something to that effect.

Fair enough.

This is the one area they've been getting their asses handed to them since day one of BD's launch. They simply don't have the money and resources at their command that the combined BDA does.

Good.
