Default PS3 and background color/image.

Hi everybody,

I got my PS3(60GB) and BD remote yesterday from BestBuy. They had only one box locked in the cage.

On the other hand they had a bunch of Xbox 360 and HD-DVD add-on boxes stacked on the top shelf by the wall.

Anyway, it had firmware version 1.0. The background color/image was kind of yellowish/greenish. I had to update firmware to 1.51 in order to use BD remote. After updating and rebooting background color/image changed to very dark blue color.

This morning when I turned PS3 on I got that yellowish/greenish background back.

Did anybody have the same issue?

that is normal, the color of the background changes color depending on the time of the day. daytime is yellow, night time is dark blue or black.

it's not an issue so to speak. it is a feature as far as i know. it just rotates colors and all that.

I was playing it in a public store a while ago.

Date was February 12th, 2007 and that was 6-7 pm (GMT +8)

The background was in "purple/violet" which is actually cool to look at

It's different from the PSP. In the PSP, the color is dependent on what you pick on system settings but for the PS3, it's time-based.

Although....

Do months *really* affect color?

This DOES NOT apply to the PS3 (only for PSP). I only saw "purple/violet" and I'm sure that the machine was set to February 12th and when I played the unit in the store, it was around 6-7 pm at night (and accrdg. to the chart, it corresponds to "light yellow"). And be aware that the unit at the store was a Hong Kong PS3 (which is the same time as in the Philippines) so there is NO date/time offset there. The XMB background was only showing "PURPLE/VIOLET" but ZERO traces of "YELLOW" or any derivative.

And guess what, I DIDN'T see any yellow whatsoever so that monthly color chart DOES NOT apply for the PS3. The color rotation is dependent then on the TIME of day and NOT ON MONTH.

Unless someone can prove to me otherwise (and perhaps show me where it can be seen on the XMB menu)....

I don't know about anyone else, but mine's yellow for this month, the store probably didn't have the right time and date set on the machine

Yesterday when I was playing with PS3 during the day background was yellow.

When I turned it on around 10pm background was dark blue.

So, it changes background depending on the time of the day.

Yes. This has been noticed in thousands of PS3.

A possible explanation of why you saw purple/violet is simple: The date. Not the date that you saw it at. The date that is SET on the PS3 itself. Out of the box, you have to set the date.

I got my PS3 on a Tuesday evening and started playing with it that night. I played with it every night when I got home and it was always black. Sat. morning I turned it on and the color was yellow. However, the battery for the controller was finally draining down at that point so I thought the color change was a visual warning about the charge level of the controller.

Didn't know that the month effects the color also.
