Default Thunderbird

Does anyone here use Mozilla Thunderbird? I tried setting it up on computer, but I must have done something wrong. I have a hotmail account btw. I think I screwed up the incoming server and outgoing server parts. I put "mail.hotmail.com" for incoming server and "smtp.hotmail.com" for outgoing server. If it wasn't that, I'm not sure what would have screwed it up. Basically, it said getting mail or whatever and then it just said there was an error and nothing ever came up. let me know, thanks.

Hotmail doesn't support POP/IMAP email, you need the official Windows Live Mail program to use Hotmail in a desktop client.

Not entirely true, Outlook supports regular Hotmail through HTTP.

There isn't an HTTP plugin for Thunderbird is there? The Apple Mail HTTP plugin doesn't really work.

Default any good?

another good question is thunderbird any good? I love firefox so I figured I'd try it out. But if it's going to me a lot of trouble, I want to know if it's worth it before I try. thanks.

Not in Thunderbird that I am aware of, you said a desktop client though. I just wanted to make sure that he new it was possible with Outlook, it works pretty good too.

it doesn't seem worth the trouble then. I just thought since everyone pretty much agrees that firefox is the best browser than their other programs were good too. maybe firefox was just a one-hit wonder lol

Thunderbird is no good for integration with Hotmail (yes, you can get it to work, no, it's not easy). I like Thunderbird for a couple of reasons:

1. Can just install it on a thumbdrive. Everything's there.
2. Allows me access to GMail, when GMail is blocked at work. GMail is the primary account I use.
3. Multiple account management. I have 2 GMail accounts, and a couple of others. The ability to manage two GMail accounts simultaneously is a blessing.
4. Filters. I can synchronize them, and filter the hell out of my messages.
5. Tags. Like filters, I can tag them with whatever I want, with however many tags I want.
6. Extensions. I can do a lot with these to my mail, have an indexing and search feature, enhance the address book, clean up messages when I forward or reply to them (gets rid of all the >>> marks, or nests the previous info better).

That's just my opinion. It works for some, not for others. I'm sure some of the features are present in other e-mail apps.
