Default Guess Which Movie Star provides Hollywood with more bang for their buck?

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- Vince Vaughn is the best star for the buck, says Forbes magazine.
Vaughn raked in $14.73 of gross income for studios for every dollar he was paid for "The Break-up," "Wedding Crashers" and "Dodgeball," the magazine calculated for its special entertainment issue, now on newsstands.
"That's because until recently his salary was relatively low, and the films he was in, like `Wedding Crashers' and `The Break-up,' had modest budgets yet did extremely well at the box office worldwide ($285 million and $205 million, respectively)," Forbes said.
Forbes said it compiled the Ultimate Star Payback list by looking at the stars' last three films that opened wide in at least 1,000 theaters before 2008 and were made in the last five years. more
The List
  1. Vince Vaughn raked in $14.73 of gross income for studios for every dollar he was paid for "The Break-up," "Wedding Crashers" and "Dodgeball," the magazine calculated for its special entertainment issue, now on newsstands.
  2. Tobey Maguire ($13.44) for each dollar of his pay for the "Spider-Man" sequels and "Seabiscuit."
  3. Julia Roberts ($13.19)
  4. Brad Pitt ($12.73)
  5. Naomi Watts ($12.16)
  6. Matt Damon ($12.16)
  7. George Clooney ($11.56)
  8. Jennifer Aniston ($10.48)
  9. Hugh Jackman ($9.90)
  10. Ben Stiller ($9.50)
Other notables are:
Quote:
The highly paid, highly bankable Will Smith — who reliably led the July Fourth weekend with a $66 million debut for "Hancock" — ranked 21st with a gross income return of $5.64 for every dollar spent on the big-budget superstar.
Quote:
Nicole Kidman is at the bottom of the list, at No. 35. Her high-paying roles in "The Golden Compass," "The Invasion" and "Bewitched" averaged only $1.01 of gross income.
Quote:
Tom Cruise, brought in $3.99 — not altogether surprising, given the imbalance of his high salary demands with the 2007 box-office flop "Lions for Lambs.
Just some useless trivia knowledge I thought was interesting as compiled by Forbes

Curious how they know how much each actor/actress got paid for each film?

They have a union, so that information is fairly easy to get b/c other union members use the salary/contract information in negotiations. Very similar to how athletes negotiate with professional teams, using similar stars' contracts as leverage in negotiations.

yea, Julia Roberts for example demands 20 M per film. I am sure Forbes stockpiles numbers on stuff like this. They track money related things like this all the time

Yeah, I didn't know if it was public knowledge or not. I guess I never had the need to go see how much someone makes. Most of them are over paid imo.

Julia Roberts - while great in Pretty Woman and a couple other films, I think there are much better actresses than her. Which would explain why I don't see her much anymore. 20mil for a movie no matter what is pricey.

She was semi-retired b/c she wanted to focus on having a family, the offers are still there for her.

After the last Bourne came out, Forbes said Damon was the most bankable and the number was over $25 so I dunno who to believe, as with everything on the internet.

EDIT: Found it...... = $29

That's their salaries though, this is about what their movies return based on what they're paid. For every dollar Damon is paid, his movies returned $29.

Too bad that's not how studios look at things. I saw the same thing trying to compare Burton's Batman to The Dark Knight. Someone you pay 20mil to and takes in revenues of 100mil is worth more than someone who is free and only takes in 75mil.

Disagree with the list...More bang for the buck = Will Smith. Without WS Hancock will be a Speed Racer type BOMB<<<guaranteed! sure you pay more for Smith, but the return in your investment is greater than with anybody else.

Here is the info on Will.

December 2007 - According to Forbes, for each dollar he got paid, Smith's movies averaged $10 of gross income.

I will let you do the math.

$304,286,036 - happyness
Production Budget $55,000,000
Ad Budget (Nielsen): $34,500,000
$214,786,036
$20,000,00 - salary - IMDB

$366,784,257 - hitch
Production Budget $55,000,000
Ad Budget (Nielsen): $36,100,000
$275,684,257

$363,192,000 - sharktale
Production Budget $75,000,000
Prints and Advertising Budget $55,900,000
$232,292,000

You are confusing what the actor got paid vs how much income the companies made on said actor. Basically, how profitable is their investment and does the return justify the pay?
