Default PS3 Red Alert 3 Cancelled!

Those jokers at EA are at it again. It appears that the PS3 version of Red Alert 3 has been cancelled according to this story:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/53894

EALA is saying it is due to "Exotic and Tough" development environment.

Sorry, I missed the old news! So has UT3 been a problem on the PS3 as well? I don't know because I picked it up on PC.

Is EA the only one having problems with the Unreal Engine or are other developers using the engine having the same issue? I only ask this because I believe Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 uses the latest Unreal Engine as well. I didn't read about any issues with it on the PS3. I know Ubisoft developed that.

Beh!

C&C isn't really good when compared to its competitors and is a POS compared to the Total War Series.

UT3 wasn't an issue due to Epic developing it solely for the PS3, they still had issues though.
I think Epic have done a lot since then to resolve many of those issues but when you look at development cycle that some times cover years of work money has to talk I guess.

C&C Red Alert was one of my fav games on the PS1, and in my opinion I'm sad that it is not being released for the PS3.

It appears to me that EA is having the most trouble with the PS3 depending on the engine used for games. I could be wrong but the games I've bought so far coming from them have had some sort of major issue. I sure hope they work the problems out for future games.

I agree completely.

Every game apart from Burnout Paradise City has had issues for me. I have a Love hate relationship with EA.

That is why I hope EA do not own Take 2 that would be the beginning of the end for me!

I think 'RTSes' like Civ rev etc... have found themselves a new, and in my opinion a very welcome home.

Civilisation revolution might not be as deep as the PC editions but certainly proficient enough to be a console great!

C&C Red Alert just looked SO good from the demo I saw on Gametrailers, only to be told three days later that it will not make it to the PS3 sad!

Couldn't care less

RTS's and in general strategy games should be on computer (PC or Mac).
This being said, what I understand while reading the article is:

"We had developepd the engine with the PC/360 in mind, as the 360 came out 2 years aggo, and they have very close architectures and dev tools. Given poor sales prospect on consoles, we have decided not to devote the time and efforts to re-develop our engine for PS3".

I could have swore Civ Rev was still turn-based, oh well. Not that my opinion is really different there either.

As a whole, the genre benefits far too much from the keyboard as the standard input device.

Can someone post the article here, I can't read that at work.

Last I heard was that it was suspended indefinitely, I was pretty sure then that they were going to cancel it. Sucks, I was looking forward to this game

I kind of figured as much. After having to estimate what I'm going to purchase for the 4th qtr, that title never showed up as a PS3 title. It was listed as an X360 title though.

Here you go:

Following the indefinite hold of the PlayStation 3 version of EALA's Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (PC, 360), publisher Electronic Arts has revealed that the title was shelved due to development issues on the platform.

"We actually announced a PS3 version early on but that was when we were still doing a lot of technical exploration of the architecture," EALA producer Amer Ajami told Videogamer. "PS3 is a very powerful system but as you guys know it's very exotic and tough to develop for and our engine really at the time wasn't designed for PS3."

Ajami further noted that EALA "might go back and do something with the PS3 later on."

Electronic Arts had not divulged any reason for the cancellation when word came early last month, stating only that it was "refocusing resources" towards the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the alternate-timeline RTS.

Red Alert 3 was to be the first traditional Command & Conquer entry on PlayStation 3, with the Xbox 360 having received C&C3: Tiberium Wars last year and C&C3: Kane's Wrath earlier this summer. The first-person shooter spinoff Tiberium is still planned to hit PC, PS3 and 360 sometime later this year.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 is currently slated to arrive on the PC and Xbox 360 this coming October.
