Default Blu-Rays skipping on playback.

I recently purchased a blu-Ray used and I'm watching it and it's skipped a few times. The disc looks like it's never been watched. so what do you assume the issue is?

EDIT: I just looked at the disc again and there was, what looked like a dry water ring, but it wiped off easily. I'm going over the disc again, hopefully that was the issue.

You got me if the FW is up to date. I had assumed you were going to say Samsung as their BD players are just extra large paper weights.

I have had a few BD's skip on playback, and upon replacing the disc they were fine. It is more often a disc issue rather than a player problem (and I have a Samsung).

Sometimes discs that don't have visible damage don't read correctly and skip at certain points, I'm not sure why exactly, but it happens occasionally to me when I rent and it's really annoying. Using different players doesn't help.

When my brother moved house, he packed his movies in a few large clear plastic storage containers with lids, and put them in the back of his car. He covered all of them over with towels, except for 1 box as he had no more towels left. The uncovered box sat in his car for 2-3 hours with the hot sun shinning on it. After that, most of the dvd's and blu-rays that were in that box stopped working properly. None of them have any visable damage, but since that happening most of them skip and pixelate during certain scenes.

Just because it loads fine on the next try does not mean it's a disc issue. Samsung has been constant FW related problems since their 1.0 players and they continue to have problems with several of their 2.0 players. I have made sure to tell people to avoid Samsung BD players like the plague because they are garbage and their customer support is lousy. They make great HD displays, but their BD players are beyond horrid. Even Funai and Vizio make better BD players.

That doesn't surprise me. Optical discs are designed to take temperatures close to freezing all the way up over 100 degrees, but what killed his discs was that direct sunlight amplified by the glass in his car. Almost like the staff from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It didn't surprise me either when my brother told me that's what happened. I just thought since the OP mentioned he bought the blu-ray second hand, and the disc doesn't appear to have any visible damage, that the previous owner could have possibly done something similar to the disc as my brother did with his discs, which could be the reason why it doesn't work properly.

S-300? Either your firmware isn't updated or you need to upgrade your Blui-ray player. What I can tell you is that I have a Sony S-360 and I have owned it for two years now. Your Blu-ray player has to be around 3-5 years old.

Considering that a decent Blu-ray player will run around $100-150, I would think about upgrading.

What happens when there are no more firmware updates for your player?
Does that mean there will be problems playing these down the road , especially newer Blu Rays?

I have a Panasonic and they have not had an update in almost a year.
