Question Playstation 3 vs. Xbox 360

With articles like this popping up of late, I'm wondering: between the current editions of Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, is one truly better than the other in any sense or category (i.e. hardware, software, games etc.)?

Some see the PS3 is a mere glorified Blu-ray player and a failed gaming system but, at the same time, it's not like the 360 is without its faults.

It honestly depends on what you are comparing. Stability wise, PS3 hands down over the 360, a lot less failure rate. Games wise, it's a wash, the PS3 and 360 are pretty much tied with a slight lead to the 360 in certain genres. Potential definately the PS3. Bang for your buck the PS3.

There must be at least a few more unbiased (i.e. non-devoted to either Sony or Microsoft) people on here besides myself... I'd hope, anyway.

Hardware wise, the PS3 wins it hands down... Blu-ray based gaming = 50+gb of storage as compared to 8 with DVD... cell processor, etc.

As far as games... the PS3 has a lot of titles out or coming out that have won me over... GOW3, Infamous, DC Universe Online, Resistance 2, MGS4, Singstar, Little Big Planet, Home, MAG

My brother has returned 2 360s, 2 of my coworkers have returned one, another has returned 3.... so the PS3 wins in reliability

you can use any HDMI cable for the PS3 as well as upgrade your hard drive to just about any size imaginable (internal or external!).

...throw in a bluray player, and you got yourself a clear winner.

I have to admit that there are some slect games on the 360 that aren't available on PS3 that I do like...

Ironically, there are already small-ish rumblings going on about Playstation 4... (the cycle will never end).

I like different things about each.

X360
XBL
Larger library of games (although, PS3 is catching up)
Controller(IMHO, I like the X360 controller better than any of the PS3 ones. I know I'll get crusified for it here, but I just like the fit of it for my hands.)
Gears of War
Bioshock (soon to on the PS3)

PS3
Blu-ray
HDD
Built in wireless
Bluetooth
Audio
Gran Turismo
PSN is free

Ehhh....

XBOX 360 has a good library of games for me, and while I pay for XBL, it is very solid. And I have not experienced a RROD on my launch-day 360.

They both do the "Arcade"-style games, I think to an equal level. And now, they both do Trophies / Achievements. I actually like this scheme, because it draws me back into the game for more, thus, I know I'll get value out of it (even if it isn't trophies, but other unlockables, like how MGS4 has the emblems)

I'd have to give it to the PS3, because I use the consoles more for watching Blu-rays, movies, streaming video, and watching video loaded to the HDD. PS3 has that area down. Plus Folding@Home. And MGS4. MGS4 overshadows about 3/4 of the titles I have for the 360.

So I cast the vote for PS3, but not without recognizing the 360 as a worthwhile contender.

While I own both (as well as the wii). I like both but, the 360 has it where it counts. The games (not that the ps3 isn't bringing some good ones). Granted the 360 has had hardware issues (then again the ps1 and ps2 had hardware issues when they both were first released and it took Sony about 4 years to fix the DRE issue on the ps2 and they both did fine sales and gameswise) but in the long run, it won't affect the 360.

I owned one game in the past 7 or 8 years, and traded it away to someone here..... so not being a gamer, my decision is easy..... the PS3 plays Blu Rays, the Xbox is a red-ringed night-light.

I had 3 360s die on me. I switched to PS3, and never looked back.

The 360 may have a wider selection of games, but the unreliability of the console made my decision for me.

I still love my 360, even though I am on my 3rd one, only one of my friends has a PS3 so I have to get most multiplayer games for it. However, the PS3 is a clearly superior machine in terms of performance.

I'm on my second X360, only because my first one was ripped off when my house was broken into last summer.

Own and enjoy both still (360 had a long lull where i never turned it on but that's changed recently).

PS3 is definitely much more 'polished' while the 360 feels like it's straining.

I own both, but personally, I play my 360 more. Im not really sure why, but one major thing is the controller. I have never liked the ps controller, dating back to the ps1. I suppose because I have large hands this is why. Also, I find that there are more of the types of games I like to play on the 360. Thats not to say I dont like my PS3, but id say my ps3 is used for exclusives and movies, while everything else is on my 360.

I have yet to see reason for my house to have an Xbox. If anyone wants to prove otherwise, check my game collection and cite examples. I chose the PS3 for the better deal on functionality, better exclusives for me, and as I see it, mutli-system games are selling points for PS3 as I see it; better hardware, no red rings, and much better controller.
