Default Tv series on Blu

I am wondering with heros coming out, what is the aspect ratio for tv programs, do they differ or are most of them just fill half a portion of the screen like playing Seinfeld up converted? Im hoping to see more series come out but hate the square aspect ratio

Default HDTV l TV Shows l Aspect Ratio l

Hello

Any TV Show that is High Definition in Original Broadcast, is 16:9 Original Aspect Ratio.

Any TV Show that is Standard Definition in Original Broadcast , is 4:3 Original Aspect Ratio.

So; Heroes, which has always been Broadcast in High Definition, is 16:9 Aspect Ratio.

Since the first Original HDTV TV Show Alias on CBS in 2001, HDTV 16:9 has become commonplace.

Only a few SDTV exceptions in 16:9 exist; which believe it or not, while filmed in 16:9, were Originally Broadcast in 4:3. Only when offered in DVD, was the Original Aspect Ratio of 16:9 seen!

Just some thoughts.

Thank You

Not to nit-pick... ALIAS was on ABC.

Well, some shows that were filmed in widescreen 16:9 were not aired that way. Homicide: Life on the Street comes to mind as one of the earliest series to shoot widescreen (although I don't recall if the DVD versions were 16:9). The more recent CSI shows are broadcast standard but they are filmed in widescreen.

On a side note, CSI:Miami is supposed to be released in BD. Now that will look AMAZING.

i think that they will eventually be released but I dont know if it will be worth getting.

If I watch Everybody Loves Raymond on tv the first 3 seasons are standard while every other later seasons are widescreen. When I put on an HD channel the later seasons that were in widescreen are all in HD while the others come up on the HD channel as 4:3.

IMO, the quality of the widescreen tv shows may not be full 1080p bluray quality but atleast with the settings on my tv when the dvds go into the bluray player I am generally getting better picture than on HD channels such as ABC,NBC,CBS etc.

Miami Vice, of course. Crime Story also by Michael Mann. Moonlighting, but I haven't seen it since the 80's. The PJ's by Eddie Murphy!!

Miami Vice and Crime Story are amazing!! I would easily rebuy those two on Blu-Ray...but Crime Story needs some serious remastering. Those Anchor Bay sets are nice to have, but pretty bad PQ/AQ-wise.

I bought the SD DVD a couple of weeks before I finally got blu-ray (on my laptop). I regret it. But the DVD case is really nice.

Mad Men on Blu-Ray has incredible PQ. I'm pissed off though because one of the middle tabs inside the case was broken, so my case won't properly hold Discs 1 & 2, and the god damn "Security Device Enclosed" sticker was on it and I can't get the goo off so the case sticks to everything.

#!@$#%

I don't know why I care about these things, but they drive me crazy.

I'm hoping X-files gets released on Blu-ray. I have seasons 1-9 with some of the seasons being the collectors sets which are thicker and have the bonus disc while other seasons are the skinnier, cheaper sets w/ no bonus disc. I believe the last few seasons are widescreen.

I'd love to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Blu Ray. Does anyone think this is even possible considering the original filming source? I heard they mastered most of the special effect scenes in standard definition. Plus, the first two seasons were shot on lower quality film. I'd love to have the entire series on Blu, but I'm wondering if it's even possible or cost productive.

Yeah I read alot of threads on sites and on here about Buffy. It is possible even with the oldest seasons. It would cost alot. Probably something wouldn't want to bother with until blu-ray is more popular than dvd. They would have to get out all of the original footage and create HD masters from it. The 16MM first few seasons would probably still be very grainy. I would say the 1st season would be the hardest, with 2nd and 3rd a close behind. 4-7 seasons would be no big deal at all since they are 35MM. Same with Spin off Angel seasons 2-5 are already widescreen on dvd so it wouldn't be too much work to get season 1 widescreen. I think both shows deserve it. I just wish Joss didn't like 4x3 so much. He said he made the show for it, but I disagree.

At least it's possible, then. To be fair, Buffy has raked in a lot of money for FOX. Though I understand it's not cost effective at this point, I do hope FOX releases them when the format becomes more popular. I do imagine season one being quite difficult. I'd love to see it. I'd have to break the bank because I'd HAVE to have them.

They claim buffy seasons 1 to 3 are all filmed the same but the first season looks the worst to me. Buffy has raked in quite a bit of money. They know it. Probably why they did the slim set re-release in 2006. I remember buffy came out when the tv season sets first became popular and it was one of the first to sell over 500,000 units for a season, I bet now it's well over 1 million per season. I have bought the regular fold out versions, and the slim sets, and have considered the chosen collection, and I have said on every site I would pay $60 to $70 per season for a properly done blu-ray season, so that they know people want it. I would say not to get excited just yet. Smallville hasn't even released the already made HD version of Season 5 on Blu-Ray or any older seasons which would be very easy for them to put out. Once they start doing that, then maybe Buffy will start being worked on. I just wonder if they would redo the special fx and do new masters or if they just are gonna upconvert the image and crop it. I hope for the former!

I seriously hope the former as well. Considering the original film source of the show, there's a lot of potential that a Blu release of Buffy could be bad if not done properly. I also have the original fold-out versions, as I bought each season the day they came out! I considered the Chosen collection as well, but I think I'll just stick with what I have now. I know a Buffy Blu release would be far from now, if it at all, but I'd like to think it'd be a good contender if and when studios start releasing older seasons of television shows. Considering the longetivty and continued enormous support of the series, I highly doubt the Buffy dvds will be the last format we see the show released in.
