Headphone use with Onkyo 606 & Yamaha V663 - Blu-ray Forum

I have to use headphones most of the time when I watch my blu-ray movies at night (young kids). I have a really nice pair of headphones, so no problem. I was wondering has anyone used a good set of headphones with the Onkyo 606 & Yamaha V663....the Yamaha receiver claims to have "silent cinema"....wondering how good this really is. Thanks

I have used a studio style Sony set with my 605. They are a couple years old and still work great. Just make sure that you find a set that has seperate drivers for high and low end...I noticed a huge difference then the cheaper combination ones

Don't get me wrong, its not the same as having all speakers firing...but works in a pinch

Yes. I have used grade A headphones with my Yamaha V1800, which is a step up from the 663. Sony SA5000/Sen 650/AKG 240 sextett/AKG 340: a hybrid electrostat/dynamic headphone.. For blue ray they sound stunning.. Even HD audio is stellar down mixed to 2 channels is quite impressive. Use the action/spectacle/drama DSP or enhanced music. You can also configurate them to your liking. Nice SS effects, comparable to DH IMO.

Too bad the our receivers use a 3.00 DAC. I'm going to buy a external DAC to bypass my yamahas internal dac.. Even if I have to use 2 channel stereo. Not that big of a deal since headphones are stereo anyways.
