Default Novelty of purchasing movies faded?

Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm not but it seems to be that people just buy movies for something to do these days. I will include myself in that.

I remember the days when buying a new movie was a real treat. It was because you totally loved the movie and felt it was a 'must own". I remember this from a younger age when I got T2 on VHS and the same feeling when I bought Jurassic Park on VHS. It was awesome to "own" or "get" a new movie.

To me now it seems we buy new movies all the time without as much regard as we should have about the actual quality of the film and just add it to the "collection". It has just dawned on me and I'm starting to wonder why in the hell I purchased over 250 dvds and over 40 BDs so far.

I'm not saying that collecting isn't worth it, but collect movies you know and love. Director's and actor's work who you personally find fascinating. Not just another blind buy because you heard it was good or you got suckered in by the fancy cover art.

For me I already have too many movies that I should just let go of and sell them off. I can almost gaurantee I won't watch them again.

Does anyone agree with me??
